This book is full of interesting ways to use small amounts of yarn, such as the odds and ends you're left with at the end of a larger project and is suitable for everyone - beginner or expert.

As well as focusing on knitting and crochet (there are basic instructions for both) this book also looks at the yarn itself, and the various effects that can be produced with different sized needles, different yarn thicknesses, different ways of winding the yarn. etc. Although there are projects with full instructions, the book is more inspirational, and readers are encouraged to be designers and think of their own ideas.

This book will help you make small gifts and decorations, and is perfect for people who don't always have the patience to complete a large project. Lots of these ideas can be finished in an afternoon. From simple finger puppets and wall decorations to elaborate fingurines of Queen Elizabeth I, this book will make you use up all of your spare yarn and run to the shop for more.

I love this book - I didn't realise that yarn can be used for so much more than just knitting sweaters.

Inspiring 5 Mar 2008

This book is one of the most inspiring books in knitting and crochet that I have ever read. The uses that Jan Messent presents on these pages are the most amazing I have ever seen. She teaches you ways to crochet, knit, wrap and create worlds and your imagination is the limit. I admire how it is written and she shows you techniques to enhance any project you are working on. I believe everyone should add this book to their collection to inspire you in every way.
'hundreds of witty and wonderful ways of using up oddments of yarn' 13 May 2012

I quite liked this book which says it's a 'knitting/ crochet book with a difference...the projects can be made simple or complicated depending on the ability or imagination of the reader.'
Some of the items seemed a little dated (but this was published 25 years ago!) How to knit a textured wall hanging...a cactus in a pot...crochet toadstools...little knitted sheep and gardens (reminded me of Messent's other - superior -book 'Knitted Gardens')...various little figures including an Assyrian king!
Total assortment of unusual ideas!
