"[Carole] doesn’t care what we think about her, which makes her – and her extraordinary account of her life at the sharp end of high fashion – all the more delicious." (Mail on Sunday)

"The result here is formidable – there's a cracking wit throughout the book that matches White's dry humour." (Independent)

"Juice galore for her addictive, fash-filled memoir." (Grazia online)

"Set to be one hell of a read." (Beauty and the Dirt blog)

I think a more apt name for this book may be 'I haven't really said much at all' - at least not on the gossip front. So, if that's what you're buying it for, you're going to be very disappointed. This isn't a 'tell all goss fest' as it has been touted as being. There's really no gossip at all. If anything is alluded too, it merely says 'two big models' or 'one big but fun model'. No names are being dropped here - well not in that way anyway.
I'd also mention the fact that it has a lot of swearing in it. If you watched The Model Agency, then you may be prepared for this. If you didn't, then just be warned. Even the very unpleasant C word crops up on more than one occasion.
As to the style, I think this is just going to be a personal thing. I didn't like it. I didn't think it was particularly well written in that it jumped around a bit - there was a lot of 'blah blah blah, but I'll get to that later'. To be honest, I nearly gave up fairly soon after starting it as it's about her early life which, written well, could have been very interesting with her Colonial upbringing. Things like that normally fascinate me, so to be bored stiff at the 'this happened, then that happened, then this happened' writing was a bit of a struggle. I think the editing is certainly something that could have been improved as there are sentences that seem a bit random, and bits that seem to have been chopped off.
Once you get on to the building of the agency, the content at least does become a bit more interesting, but as I mentioned, not if you're looking for someone dishing the dirt. Whilst Ms White has the language of a sailor, she's a shrewd businesswoman and isn't about to tell any secrets of people who may still be of use to her in business.

Couldn't wait to read this book having seen the series. It was informative and funny but I was really disappointed that there were no pictures. If ever a book should have them it was this one! Enjoyed it though.

Thoroughly honest, amusing and engaging - a great insight into the elusive fashion world. Could have been improved with pictures!
