Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The debut album from Reading electro-punks Does It Offend You Yeah? slots neatly into the slipstream behind fellow rave/rock fusioneers The Klaxons and Justice, an energetic splicing of bratty vocals, ribcage-quaking synthesisers, choppy rhythms--and occasionally, a few ideas that are all their own. So, while the opening trio of tracks aim mostly to bludgeon in a Justice style--"We Are Rockstars" hitches tapped cowbell and pneumatic beats to keyboard riffs that buzz like angry wasps--a little further in, DIOYY? tone down the technological assault and stretch their songwriting muscles. "Let's Make Out" is snotty in a faintly dislikable way, like the caddish male answer to Reverend And the Makers' "He Said He Loved Me". A couple of tracks prove they've got hearts under all the bravado, though: "Being Bad Feels Pretty Good" and "Dawn of the Dead" are anthemic electro-pop in the vein of mid-period Human League, complete with very '80s live bass and curiously, in the case of the latter, steel drums. --Louis Pattison

CD Description

'You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into' is thedebut album from Reading electro-indie rockers Does It Offend You Yeah? Taking their influences from groups such as Justice, Daft Punk, Muse and DFA 1979, this raucous and day-glosmattering record embodies the spirit of 'Nu-Rave'. Includes the singles 'Battle Royale', 'Weird Science' and 'Let's Make Out'.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Offence, 31 Mar 2008
By The Wolf (uk) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Mr Badger arrived at the cave entrance this afternoon in a state of high agitation. His cousin from Reading had visited earlier in the day bringing with him as a gift a copy of Does It Offend You Yeah's new album
'You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into'.

Having listened to it once (perhaps a little too loudly for a first hearing) he discovered to his dismay that several large cracks had opened up in the ceiling of his usually secure and commodious sett.

Upon his cousin's departure he had come immediately to seek my advice.

The Wolf is pleased to report that no such destructive events have repeated themselves in the cave.

From the skittering opening beats and synthesiser of 'Battle Royale' to the anthemic closure of 'Epic Last Song' the ten numbers contained in this fine album give every reason for these upstanding young gentlemen from Reading to be very proud indeed.

I cannot believe that any offence was intended by the release of these stirring compositions and certainly none has been taken.

Indeed, the presence of a lesbian octopus in track 6 should be held up as a noteworthy example of equal opportunity promotion in the animal kingdom.

Unlike Mr Badger I would reccommend listening to this album at levels exceeding 120 decibels to experience its' full (and I feel sure) intended effect.

A splendid first showing chaps.

Life in the Home Counties is clearly looking up !

4.0 out of 5 stars good, 14 Mar 2008
stupid effin name, they sound like something nathan barley would say and hence would be cool in the capital if we were 3 years prior. In spite of this comes good tunes, highly recommended, and so far not ruined by that little kid down the road who copies what i like. (this may only apply to me).

4.0 out of 5 stars electro-punks, 22 Mar 2008
By J. Bollington (sheffield, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
forget klaxons and hadouken!, this is the real deal.

the best thing I can describe it as is electro-punk, not dissimilar to fat of the land era prodigy, or perhaps some of the KLF's more rockier moments
This is a truly great album with some great songs which are almost guaranteed to make you want dance, for example we are rockstars, weird science, with a heavy heart etc.

The only criticism I can make is that some of the songs feel a bit, well, poppy. Dawn of the dead and being bad feels pretty good both feel a bit out of place on an album as fierce as this one. but don't let this put you off, as the rest of the tracks are absolute stormers, and if they are playing anywhere near you SEE THEM. Their live show is second to none.
