Wireless MediaMVP is the link between your TV and your PC, allowing you to watch and listen to PC based music, videos, digital pictures and Internet radio on your TV set. wMVP (as it is also called) works with either wireless 802.11G or wired 10/100 Mbit Ethernet networks. You can use up to 24 wired MediaMVPs on a home network, or up to four wireless MediaMVPs. Listen to PC music on one TV set while watching an MPEG movie on another!

As my computers & router are upstairs I was keen for a device that would play my video/music/pics from my computers direct to my main TV downstairs so cutting out the need to convert everything onto disk.This Hauppauge WMVP seemed perfect.
However when I set it up,using the wireless connection to my Sky Netgear, it detected the router straight away but could not obtain an IP address no matter what I tried (I have 30+ yrs computing XP,both hardware & software).I checked the Hauppauge forum and,sure enough,I was not alone as the problem had been discussed throughout last year with no solution provided by the firm.I emailed the UK office but got no reply after a week so I phoned them."Yes, it's a known fault but all the techies are in the US so you need to email them", which I did.After another week of silence I returned the unit as not fit for purpose - all credit to Amazons great return procedure - and I am now looking at a similar product by D-Link.
I did connect the WMVP via cable and that worked reasonably well but I do not want a Cat5/6 cable running all round my house.
I am sure this unit will work with some routers,trouble is there is no list to say which ones.

Works brilliantly - allows you to stream video, audio and pictures from your desktop to your television using your home network (either wired or wireless)
Only loses 1 star as the wireless wont support wpa security only wep
Just remember you need the correct codecs installed on your pc for the mvp to play them - if you cant play the file on your pc then you cant play it via the mvp

Bought this to work with my Hauppauge Nova-T receiver. When setting it up wirelessly I got the error meassage "Unable to get IP Address" and it would not go any further (all I could do was unplug the power). On several web forums I found others had had the same problem when using a Netgear Router. I contacted the manufacturer and when I told them I had a Netgear router they instantly replied that my wMVP was "faulty" and I should send it back to the retailer. A replacement wMVP had the same problem, and when I set it up using an ethernet cable it failed to locate the "GUI Server" and so I couldn't get past the top level menu. I got a refund.
