Despite having never heard of it before, I bought this cheap at Sainsburys to watch at Halloween, based on the review on the DVD cover. Unfortunately, the cover is the most impressive thing about this lame duck!
Mark Atkins, the writer and director of this appalling film, is clearly a big fan of the horror genre, as he has taken all of the 'best bits' of his favourite scary movies and used them repeatedly throughout, thus rendering them all highly formulaic and predictable. There is nothing original in it at all. He obviously thought that using everybody else's good ideas would cover up the stereotypical and frankly dull plot, the shockingly bad acting and the sub-standard special effects. He was wrong.
To cover up its shortcomings, most of the film takes place in such darkness that it's hard to see what's going on - my wife actually missed the fact that one of the characters dies about two-thirds of the way through! It feels like half of the viewing time is spent looking at a black screen. Also, the 3D is poorly done and is clearly just trying to cash in on the latest craze.
I couldn't recommend this film any less. Just terrible.
