Product Description

Product Description

"An exceptional collection of ghost and haunting encounters—made even better because of Michelle Belanger's firsthand experience
with them, on top of her extensive knowledge of the phenomena."
—Loyd Auerbach, MS, parapsychologist and director
of the Office of Paranormal Investigations

Michelle Belanger's chilling collection of true ghost stories will take you further than you've ever gone before into the realm of spirits, astral entities, and dark forces. Along the way, you'll encounter haunted violins, dark fey, hell hounds, haunted cremains, and even an astral vampire summoned by an aspiring magician who becomes its unwitting target.

Whether she's being accosted by an angry spirit who recently committed suicide or being driven out of haunted woods in a very Hitchcock-esque manner, Belanger's hard-won expertise and insightful commentary add both depth and context to her truly frightening—and sometimes dangerous—haunted experiences.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to the paranormal 28 April 2012
Format:Paperback
This was my first book by this author, and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. I'm interested in the paranormal and found this book to be a good introduction with interesting experiences and sightings on the matter. It is a quick read, not too long, and some of the stories sent chills down my spine. Definitely a good read on a rainy afternoon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Too Spooky about Haunting Experiences 20 Oct. 2009
By Shannon L. Yarbrough - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I've been a fan and follower of Michelle Belanger after seeing her on the Travel Channel and Paranormal State, but this is the first book of hers that I've read. And I admit I'm impressed. I was quite prepared to read a collection of "spooky" tales probably taken right from Michelle's travel journals, but what I got instead was even better. Michelle does not attempt to send chills down your spine or keep you up at night, although the occurrences in some of the stories might do just that. Instead, she presents you with a time and place and a specific scenario. She tells you what happened or how the people involved were affected. She shares how she helped or what her opinions of the situation were, all the while reminding the reader that she herself is always a skeptic. In some of the stories, she even presents a bit of history about the place or about the particular type of spirit she's dealing with. She also explores what causes a spirit or energy to take up residence in a specific place. The book ends with a not-so-haunted tale about when Michelle visited Ground Zero in NYC.

Overall, I thought this was a fantastic book because it's much more believable than some book that would try to target my fear. Michelle approaches each situation in a somewhat scientific way, maybe with a touch of religion, but always with an open mind and a bit of skepticism. She does not try to sway the reader to believe one way or the other. And her talent for writing definitely helps to keep the stories interesting. It's a short book at just over 250 pages and there are 21 short stories to ponder from when Michelle was a child to more recent, each unique in its own way. I was very impressed with the book overall and will definitely be seeking out more from Michelle!

4.0 out of 5 stars New Meaning for "Intelligent" Haunting 20 May 2009
By Deborah S. Rogers - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
"Haunting Experiences," by Michelle Belanger cuts through the dense forest and gives you a path through the trees by offering something rare and refreshing in non-fiction paranormal literature: intelligent discourse.

Largely autobiographical, we see the author through the eyes of someone who has questioned, re-questioned and then questioned again her own experiences and those of others, only to leave the ultimate interpretation of what happened to the reader. Bellanger uses logic and common sense to dissect and debunk whatever experiences she may recount, leaving the veracity and genuineness of those experiences not debunked as testament to a wondrous and fascinating world beyond what we see as our own.

While the book can be a quick read, you will want to savor it slowly as Bellanger writes with a rich literary style that respects the reader's intellect and encourages spiritual curiosity and growth.

Gift suggestion: Excellent gift for that special someone(s) who is struggling with reconciling their intellect and spirit over their own paranormal experiences.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, not what I was expecting. 27 May 2009
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Wow. This was a surprise.

I half expected something dense and full of "crazy", like unicorns healing people and angels giving them money or something.

Each chapter in the book is a different experience Belanger had in her life. If you run to the more skeptic end of the spectrum (and I do) you'll take a lot of this with a grain of salt (and sometimes the rest of the salt shaker, too). The author even encourages this attitude throughout the book. If you're more of a believer then you'll just find this to be a very enjoyable, probably inspirational read.

I can see this being great fodder for someone planning scary Halloween stories.

It doesn't matter what beliefs you have, you'll probably enjoy this book. Belanger has an easy to read style, which is a definite plus. It's not an overly long book, so I blew through it in about 24 hours.

I'd love to see this as an audio book narrated by the author sometime - she has a very good voice and her own cadence would probably add a good deal to the experience.

This really makes me want to check out some of her fiction. I also hope the author actually does sit down to write the book on her hotel experiences that she hinted at in a few chapters.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasure to Read 17 Aug. 2010
By IM Tight - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I am a voracious reader and was completely delighted by Michele Belanger's "A Haunting Experience". Although my expectations were high, being familiar with Michele's scholarship and expertise in the field of the paranormal, her writing itself was a feast for someone who is used to "dumbed down" books, both fiction and non-fiction. She knows what a sentence is, what a paragraph is, and has a phenomenal vocabulary. I found myself rereading parts just for the sheer pleasure of it. I haven't done that since I read "Cold Mountain". Now I have to get more of her works!

4.0 out of 5 stars Looking forward to a volume 2 27 May 2009
By Lisa Young - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is an intelligently written firsthand account of paranormal experiences. I loved Michelle's honesty and did not feel it was exaggerated at all. I enjoyed her neutral stance. I also feel that she is very knowledgeable and this book serves an educational purpose as well. I gave it four stars opposed to five because she also writes about other people's experiences. I was hoping for just things she had experienced. With that said I feel/hope she has another book of stories and experiences yet to be written. Please Michelle write a volume 2!
