5.0 out of 5 stars This album deserves a decent review!!, 15 Jan 2003
THIS ALBUM RULES - there I said it. I wanted to get that out of the way and say it firstly as having browsed the other reviews, I noticed that they don't come anywhere near describing how amazing this album really is - so I felt the need to tell you all!! The first time I listened to this album I had high expectations having followed At the Gates career from fairly early on, needless to say the expectations were easily met - and then some. This is THRASH metal at its very finest, and from the first crushing chords of 'Hate Song' to the slowly fading pounding outro of 'Forensick' this album kicks your a** and helps you to remember why you got into metal in the first place. The amazing guitar work weaves intricately around shifting drum patterns held down with solid basslines, while Peter Dolving screams like a crazed man who has just witnessed his family being slaughtered before him. If this doesn't sound like your bag - then don't buy it, but if it does it will not disappoint!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see 'em live in Oxford soon...

Go on - buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars untouchable, 10 Dec 2006
This review is from: Haunted (Audio CD)
this quite simply is the best thrash album ever made it really is that simple. dont get me wrong i love 'reign in blood' and 'south of heaven' and also 'slaughter of the soul' by at the gates who were probably the only band who ever came close to beating slayer at their own game, but at the gates folded and then they morphed into the haunted and by the gods am i happy about that(not the folding but the amazing transformation). the secret to this album is two things
1.the riffs oh my dear god the riffs, there are more rifs per minute of play than i think i have heard anywhere else in recorded music and the best bit is that they are all awesome
2.is the vocals and the twisted lyrics that dolving is spitting, whispering, screaming, singing and/or whatever else it is that he does so welll on this album.
everything on this album just clicks, there isnt a single note beat or arrangment out of place and it is a joy to behold, i have had this album for about six years and i still havent tired of listening to it yet i would seriously reccommend that if you have an interest in the thrash scene that you give these boys and specifically this album a spin.

5.0 out of 5 stars The first and still best., 31 Dec 2004

(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
Despite numerous challenges, Slayer's Reign in Blood album has remained pretty much untouchable at the top of the thrash metal tree since it's release in 1986, and while The Haunted's debut album may not completely dislodge it as the 'best thrash record ever' it certainly comes closer than anything else. Ironically, when this album was released in 1998 the thrash genre itself was virtually extinct, as bands progressed onto the likes of death and black metal, but despite The Haunted's roots in the melodic death metal of At The Gates the music here is unashamedly old-school Bay Area E-string dampened chugging thrash all the way. Imagine the likes of Vio-lence, Forbidden, Exodus and co at their best, with Pantera's Phil Anselmo on vocals, and you'll get a fair idea of The Haunted's sound. Despite the thrash genre seemingly having run out of steam, The Haunted manage to find masses of immense riffs to batter the listener with, and the band sound aggressive and tight. Just as happened to Slayer after Reign in Blood, four albums on, and The Haunted themselves have still not managed to equal the quality of their debut. In short - if you are interested in extreme metal this is essential. Still The Haunted's best album.
