More About the Author

Born in London, Summer Strevens now lives and writes in Masham, a small market town in Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales. After pursuing the alliterative career paths of fire-fighter, florist and fork lift truck driver, in an effort to limit her CV (which reads like War & Peace) she decided to turn her hand to writing.

Her published books include Haunted Yorkshire Dales, York Murder & Crime, The Birth of the Chocolate City: Life in Georgian York, and The A-Z of Curiosities of the Yorkshire Dales due for publication in Spring 2015.

A lover of history, Summer has always had a particular passion for the history of fashion (when other little girls were dressing their Barbie dolls in sparkly 70's disco chic, Summer was busy costuming her's look like Anne Boleyn - the head came off remarkably easily after all...) and she is currently researching and writing 'Fashionably Fatal', examining some of the extreme and extraordinary manipulations and abuses of the human body in the continuing evolution of the concept of beauty. From those corsetted to conform with the fashionable ideal only to have their internal organs rearranged, or worse speared through the heart by a snapped stay, to the fatal fashion phenomenon of "Crinoline Conflagrations" that killed in the region of 3,000 women in England alone between the late 1850's and late 1860's, she is really warming to the themes of killer accessories - the exploding Victorian hair comb one case in point - as well as corrosive lead based cosmetics, literally 'if looks could kill', amongst other historical vanity insanities.

Though Summer has embraced writing as a full time occupation, this doesn't preclude her from mentally editing her top ten list of 'fantasy jobs', with station announcer at Charing Cross currently occupying the top slot closely followed by presenting the weather forecast on national TV, though she'd make do with radio at a pinch, sharing as she does, with many others, a healthy obsession with Radio 4's long wave shipping forecast.

If you like tales of ghosts and ghouls then this is the book for you - just don't make the mistake I did and read in the dead of night! The book is really well written and makes a very enjoyable read. There are also lots of great photos of the haunting hot spots. It is packed full of ghostly stories from around the Dales and makes a most interesting read. I would highly recommend this book.
