As Authors of this book, we thought it might be of help to explain that the making of this and another anticipated number of Volumes of Haunted Skies were not produced to make money, but about preserving the social history of UFOs and recogonising the efforts and contributions of so many others whom we felt priveleged to meet over the years. The books are about them, not us - all we have done is put the pieces of the 'jigsaw' together. As far as reviews are concerned one man from Finland, who purchased the book, was dissapointed that the black and white images were not in colour. Unfortunately, using colour images would have increased the price of printing costs, three or four times over. We felt that the reviews have been very good and the book is selling well.
We are working on the next Volume, which covers an incredibly short period of just 5 years (1960-1965), and shows, if nothing else, how prolific UFO activity was even in those early days.
The first book was unchartered territory for us, as far as the format of the book was concerned, but will be used as the blueprint for the following Volumes, although less newspaper cuttings will be used. We have now introduced an Addendum at the end of each year, allowing the reader a unique opportunity to carry out their own research, bearing in mind if we had included this information into the main text, the book would have been too big, as more than 300 pages incurs additonal packaging and postage costs.
Originally, it was our intention to produce only three or four books, entitled 'UFOs - A Chronicle of a Phenomenon' - but we found no-one who was prepared to publish these books. Mainstream Publishers are very wary about getting involved, despite the public's continuing fascination with UFOs. Fortunatly, our Publisher, Jon Downes, of CFZ, belived in us.
