Review

Wonderfully chilling (The Times )

An enjoyable amble across Britain's phantasmagorical map and a guide to a quirky part of our cultural heritage (Financial Times )

It is the rich variety of ghosts that is really striking (Mail on Sunday )

Product Description

Watch out for a ghostly ship and its spectral crew off the coast of Cornwall

Listen for the unearthly tread and rustling silk dress of Darlington's Lady Jarratt

Shiver at the malevolent apparition of 50 Berkeley Square that no-one survives seeing

England's past echoes with stories of unquiet spirits and hauntings, of headless highwaymen and grey ladies, indelible bloodstains and ghastly premonitions. Here, county by county, are the nation's most fascinating supernatural tales and bone-chilling legends: from a ghostly army marching across Cumbria to the vanishing hitchhiker of Bluebell Hill, from the gruesome Man-Monkey of Shropshire to the phantom congregation who gather for a 'Sermon of the Dead' ...

As I have only just received this book and therefore not had time to read it, it's not really fair that I post a review but after opening the package to find a book that's cover was so creased it might as well have come from a carboot sale I can't help myself. I take it not many copies have been sold as this one must have been knocking about in storage a very long time, however after a cursory glance through the contents it's doesn't look like it's going to be to bad a read, I have loads of similar titles and haven't really come across one that I didn't enjoy.
I will edit my review as and when I have finished the book, but as for the quality, come on amazon, get your act together or I'll start using ottakars, they might be more expensive but at least I get to choose the quality before I buy!.
