Hauntingly entertaining!,

This review is from: Haunted Chichester And Beyond (Paperback)
Although I have been listening to Arron Weedall on Play Radio's "Sunday Roast" over the past few months, it was some time before I decided to take the plunge and explore his book. However, I recently encountered a review of his skills as a broadcaster on the website digitalspy- that waxed lyrical about his possession of not only "an ideal face for radio", but also "a perfect voice for writing". On reading this characteristically glowing review, I felt that it was high time I got hold of a copy!
Not long ago, Weedall spoke rather candidly on air about the experience of undergoing a surgical procedure (one that is often coloquially referred to as 'the snip')! Well, he may not have a direct line of connection to his goolies anymore but, if this scholarly survey of the paranormal is anything to go by, he's certainly in touch with his ghoulies! As a city, Chichester is rich in both history and tradition, so it's no surprise to learn that it has more than its fair share of yarns, regarding the supernatural. Among those that are covered within are the armoured horseman of Charlton Forest and the sombrero-clad lady of Bognor's Hotham Park. The blue man of Castle Arundel library (sightings of whom are usually said to be accompanied by a stark drop in temperature) is also quite intriguing. However, quite frankly he doesn't sound even half as 'blue' as Weedall's co-presenter on Play Radio- the rambunctious Matt Hollick (who has a comparable reputation for leaving people rather cold). In truth, I can't say that the author quite managed to wheedle me (or rather "Weedall me", perhaps) into believing in the paranormal, but he does provide a first-class summary of local myth and folklore. Let it be said that Weedall has achieved a unique feat that few authors, be they living or dead (or even 'undead', maybe), will ever be likely to equal. Aside from the unprecedented accomplishment of having both his Christian name and his surname misspelled by Amazon, however, he has also managed to write a pretty decent book!
