Having looked foreward to a new book by our Derek, I found this one rather disappointing.
It basically does what is says on the cover, introduces the reader to 100 of Britains scariest places and also contains helpul hints on ghost hunting. But it lacks a certain joi de vivre that his other biographical novels have in bucket loads. It's basically a history book, with a line for each location about what haunts where and why. Now as a sceptic I have to ask, why does a spiritualist medium feel the need to research the most haunted areas in Britain some of which he hasn't even visited. To be honest I would have preferred to read about places he has visited and what he picked up personally. As we know from previous novels, Derek has a wonderfully natural narrative.
All in all, interesting historically, but non challenging and rather safe. Theres not a lorra Derek in this book.
