3.0 out of 5 stars Spooky Blackpool 17 Jan 2012
By David Colman - Published on Amazon.com
When my wife gave me a copy of Haunted Blackpool, I was looking forward to being entertained and, for the most part, I was. Being originally from Blackpool, I was certainly familiar with all of the locations mentioned in the book. Because of my family's history of working for Blackpool Corporation, I was particularly interested in the stories `The Man with the Gas Lamp' and `Tram number 702'.

I suppose if I had my druthers, I would have liked a little more detail with the stories in the book. Here is a typical quote from the book: "Robert, his wife Mary and their three children were on a long weekend break from Glasgow". What I would like to have known is Robert and Mary who - and, when did they visit Blackpool? For most of the stories, the author, Stephen Mercer, is somewhat vague.

The story that frustrated me the most for its lack of detail occurred in the Spanish Hall in the Winter Gardens. Psychic medium Ian Lawman experienced a vision of a death in the hall only to find out later that a workman had died there. What I wanted to know was the name of the workman and when the accident occurred. What would have been even better would have been the story from the local newspaper, The Blackpool Gazette. No such luck.

But I'm being picky. If you like Blackpool and want to read fun stories of strange happenings in some of the town's most famous locations, Haunted Blackpool is for you.
