I imagine that this may be bought by grandparents like me, all over the land, who don't want to buy again a big hard wooden cot such as they used for their own children. It's tricky to find storage for those bulky old pieces of furniture, plus they too were tryingly awkward to erect, particularly the ones with sliding sides. So this looks like it fits the bill. And so it does, as long as you approach it in a cool calm fashion; a tall order I know as we all may imagine we can ignore the 'destructions' and work it out for ourselves...

Although you might need it in a hurry, there really is no alternative to making the cot in the very way they lay out in the pictures. It just won't work if you go off piste - the whole thing becomes an increasingly frustrating exercise. I know because that's what I did. So take as read you have to diligently do as you are told and it will work in a flip. You get the knack of squeezing the joints to collapse or build the cot, they are under the rail padding and you have to feel for them. (This is beginning to sound a bit weird!)

The Hauck Dream'n'Play cot is really, really good. It will usefully double up as a playpen too which is a big plus. The cot feels substantial and looks attractive. No one hurts themselves bashing into it, as it is padded and made of a waterproof type material that will be very easy to keep smart. You have to buy a mattress as well - I chose a cossato Cosatto Springi 120 Cot Mattress - they offer a range of choices. The bottom of the travel cot folds out to make a firm strong base to fit inside the frame which then looks safe to take any amount of jumping, cage rattling and bouncing.

We bought this as a daytime bed, for our first child to sleep in during the day downstairs. We didn't want to go with a moses basket as we wanted something that would last and something more of a size to the cotbed she as at night. For the money this is really good. The adjustable mattress is a bonus and means at the moment our little one is easier to reach as you don't have to bend down so far (she's 11 weeks). I'm glad we paid extra for this version as the grandparents have the cheaper one without this option and it's a little more flimsy.Took a few attempts to work out how to fold it down to take to the grandparents as an actual travel cot (we used it as a night time bed over Christmas) but once that was mastered it became really easy.

The only downside is that the mattress that comes with it is a little hard so we purchased an additional foam mattress to put over the top to soften it a little. other than that I think this is great.

This is our third travel cot and I believe we have now found our 'winner'. Previously/currently we have two Mothercare travel cots which we bought for our son; one which is kept at our house and is used as a play pen and the other that has been kept at my Aunt's house for when he has occasionally slept there. However with the birth of our newborn I just didn't want to be bending all of the way over into the cots anymore and my Aunt had also commented that the mattress in the current travel cot at hers even when used with the additional (albeit thin) travel cot mattress purchased from Mothercare was still very hard and my son had had some difficulty sleeping with it.

I have spent what feels like ages researching the ideal (and final!) travel cot when I noticed that the majority of Hauck travel cots were actual cot sizes i.e. 120cmx60cm and so you could use a normal cot mattress with them if using them at home or you could purchase and use their additional travel cot mattress/sleeper hauck Disney Baby Sleeper Folding Mattress/ Playmat Pooh / hauck 60 x 120cm Sleeper Folding Mattress/ Playmat (Playpark) which we have purchased to use with this travel cot. I can confirm with the additional sleeper/mattress that both the upper and lower levels of the travel cot are much comfier and indeed more like your little one is sleeping in their normal cot at home and so I am very happy with my purchase.

I chose this cot as it has an upper deck for younger babies which saves back strain when removing and replacing baby. As a first time single granny unused to baby things I had a struggle with it - I found the diagram instructions hard to follow I prefer written instructions. However as usual I found Kiddicare.com to be my saviour as they have very useful step by step videos on using most large baby items including Hauck travel cots so watched that and found it was quite easy to put up and down. It doesnt take up much space in the bag though its a bit heavy. Only problem was the baby decided she didnt want to sleep in it as it was rather big for her so she spent the week in her cosy pram! I'm she will grow to like it eventually its early days. Its good value and seems very solid and sturdy though I did buy a mattress as the one supplied is too hard for young babies I think.
