London, 1815 - The Roxy Playhouse is in trouble!

The Roxy Playhouse Irregulars, those libertine artists and dreamers, are up to their necks in debt - “Pay up in one month or its curtains for you all.” Dark times lead to drastic schemes and so the Irregulars decide to reinvent themselves as ‘performance thieves’, infiltrate High Society and ‘Robin Hood’ their way through it. However, getting embroiled in a dark and deadly plot to destroy the Monarchy was never part of their script. The Roxy Irregulars will have to stage the performance of their lives if they want to save the day and make it home in time for last orders.

‘Hats off to Brandenburg’ is a fast, fresh, rip-roaring romantic adventure set in a heightened, fantastical version of Regency London. Told in a modern voice and crammed full of action, romance and general derring-do 'Hats off to Brandenburg' is adventure reborn.

'Hats off to Brandenburg' is part one of 'The Roxy Compendium', a sixteen part mythology charting the trials, tribulations and romances of 'The Roxy Playhouse Irregulars' as they fight, live and love in the early 19th Century.

Product Description

Review

“‘Hats off to Brandenburg’ takes place in England in the early 19th century. The scenes are so vividly described it was like I was standing right there as they played out. His descriptions of the street layouts, the actions of the characters, the Roxy Playhouse, the taverns was just spot on. The writing is crisp and well structured – it is funny, engaging, sad at times and more than I could have ever have hoped for! ‘Hats off to Brandenburg’ is a stunning piece off work with a well-structured storyline and characters that are more than likable… a worthy addition to anyone’s bookshelf. I know it made an entry in my top 10 all-time favourites! All I can say is: “Sit back, relax and enjoy the show”. I hope the Roxy Irregulars are here to stay!” – Fantasy Book Review

“There’s drinking, fighting and lots of acting in the adventures of the Roxy Playhouse Irregulars. This is only book one [of the Roxy Compendium] and it’s already crammed in so much in the way of thrills and action. Needless to say, as for most actors, it starts off about the money and ends up with explosions and fire. As with all epics, the characters are the reason you keep reading and it’s easy to see why so many people are eagerly awaiting the next instalment.” – Laura King, Itchy Online

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story, beautiful characters.. 13 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I simply cannot fault this book - its been the read of my summer hands down. With its mixture of laughs, romance & adventure, Hats Off to Brandenburg is the perfect poolside/garden bench/beach deck chair read. And I was captivated from the very first pages.

The story follows the adventures of an 1800's actor troupe- they are down & out misfits, chancers & dreamers - and some of the most loveable characters you are ever likely to read about. They have fallen into debt to a wicked rival theatre owner and their only chance of saving their necks is infiltrating high society & stealing as much as they can! But as the fast paced plot unfolds it turns out that their debts could be the very least of their worries..

To say anymore would spoil the adventure, but I think the charm of the author comes from the way he makes these characters so real & familiar, from the moody but honourable drunk Bejamin, Antoine the almost supernaturally gifted French magician, the beautiful, Italian dancer Desiree, to my personal favourite: Archie - a charmer, a ladies man, a loveable rogue & the type of friend we all wish we had.

These are but a few a of the beautifully balanced ensemble that is The Roxy players - each with their own histories, dreams & choices to make, the skill of the author giving them their own unique personalities and traits - I guarantee you'll have your own favourite by the end of the book.

All in all a fantastic read that made me laugh, get a bit weepy & punch my fist I the air at the sheer audacity & awesomeness of Brandenburg.

Bravo, Mr Thomas ! You have my standing ovation...

4.0 out of 5 stars Regency Romp 11 Jun 2012
Format:Paperback
This raunchy 21st century take on the adventures of a Regency theatre company - the Roxy Playhouse Irregulars - is a lot of fun. I laughed out loud (and groaned) at its delightful anachronisms and 'bodice-ripping' sex scenes.

Graham Thomas is a young writer to watch.

To call this novel fast paced is an understatement. Once engaged it is a non stop roller coaster of a read, speeding through a kaleidoscope of emotions. Look forward to the next story of these intrepid players.
