Book Description

27 Feb 2012
Yoga practitioners were captivated by simple instruction and stunning photography in the best-selling Hatha Yoga Illustrated. Now, that winning formula has been applied to Hatha Yoga Asanas: Pocket Guide for Personal Practice. Designed to be instantly accessible and immediately intuitive, this guide complements the more comprehensive Hatha Yoga Illustrated with beautiful visual depictions and movement cues for over 150 classic hatha yoga asanas. The asanas range from gentle yoga for beginners to more advanced physical forms of yoga, including popular asanas such as upward-facing dog, warrior, and locust. Each asana is depicted by a four-color photograph and is accompanied by short and simple steps for performing the movements. The guide also serves as a quick reference to both the English and Sanskrit names as well as the level of difficulty for each pose. Each asana has a numerical ranking based on flexibility, strength, and balance. Covering a variety of hatha yoga styles, including ashtanga vinyasa and iyengar, Hatha Yoga Asanas: Pocket Guide for Personal Practice offers an essential resource no yoga practitioner should be without.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but... 5 Sep 2012
By Shilpab
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book has lots of pictures of different Asanas with a difficulty rating. It shows their english & sanskrit names. However, it doesn't mention the benefits of doing the poses. Even though there is so much free space on the pages. It's important to know the benefits of a pose or posture on your body.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise guide to yoga postures 20 Feb 2012
By Brooks Rainey Pearson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book combines beautiful photography with a simple, clear instruction manual to a wide range of asanas. I have come across many yoga instruction manuals in my thirteen years of teaching yoga, and I appreciate the simplicity and straight forwardness of this book. For each posture, the English and Sanskrit names are given, the difficulty level is ranked on a 1-10 scale, instruction are listed step-by-step, and a photograph shows the final posture. It is accessible for beginners, but also includes postures that are challenging for advanced practices. I will refer to this book in the future in my teaching, and will recommend it to my students who are looking for a concise illustrated guide to the asanas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple yet thorough!! 13 April 2012
By namasteb - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Get this book! Finally, a short and sweet yoga book that breaks down the most popular poses in a clear, concise, and simple way. I have practiced for years and find that most yoga instruction is too detailed and does not leave much to the student's intuition. The beautiful photos of the various yogis are very inspiring as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect reference guide for beginnerse and advanced yogis! 28 Mar 2012
By Vanessa A Eulo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
My friend sent me this book a few weeks ago and I use it almost every day now! I have been practicing yoga regularly for about 6 months now and have been struggling with understanding teachers when they use Sanskrit names for the poses in class. This book has been so helpful to understand what they want me to do and what poses they are referring to! I have been trying to practice more at home and I really like the photo accompanied with the simple and straightforward instructions. Most yoga books I've gotten are too complicated and I just give up, but the brief instructions with the full size photo are the perfect combination for me, since I've just started taking yoga and I want to get really good at it now! I am going to try to do at least one of the harder poses each week. I'm going to get this book for all my friends who like yoga too!
