Hatchet 2 is a franchise genre movie so if you're expecting pathos, emotional depth or cutting edge psychological horror then you will be disappointed. However, if you want a splatter-comedic swamp horror party movie with a cast of well loved genre faces then welcome to the bayou, prepare for voodoo splatter and watch out when the hatchet falls.
Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th), Tony Todd (Candyman) and Danielle Harris (The Halloween movies) star in an enthusiastically gruesome movie from horror director Adam Green (Frozen) a man with a nicely honest approach to scary movies. His obvious love for the genre is apparent on screen and while you shouldn't expect originality that isn't why we watch these films is it? No, we're here for guts, gore and body count and Hatchet 2 delivers this, alongside Todd essaying another creepy, sinister misfit, Hodder as the mutated stalking killer and Danielle Harris offering a textbook scream queen / final girl performance.
Hatchet 2 is a fine genre movie and recommended to strong-stomached popcorn movie fans everywhere.
