The Playskool Store PlaySet brings a whole new dimension to role-play, with the popular game of shopping being brought to life with hands-on experience.
The cash register is designed to attach easily to a standard computer keyboard (adult assistance required), which allows interaction with the store by using the register's keys. The store has six different departments to shop within, each offering the chance to either "help a customer" by working the register, or play a fun game or activity.
Shopping with a customer allows the child to take over the role of checkout assistant; entering prices, scanning items, matching prices (number recognition) and accepting payments. The customer automatically decides the type of payment for goods, either cash or credit card. With cash, turning the key on the register "picks up" the money and the draw opens. If payment is by credit card then "pulling back" on the playset card processes the payment.
Each department also features its own game/activity, with the chance to play games such as sorting, memory, puzzles and number recognition. With the store offering six departments such as; clothing, pets, groceries etc., and with each department bringing along its own type of customer and requests as well as games, there is no end to the play scenarios that can be created.
Ability levels are also not forgotten. These are automatically adjusted to the skill of the child, with games and requests being tailored to their ability. As their skills increase the program will adjust accordingly to allow full stimulation at all times.
Fun accessories to print out include name tags, play money and bar code tags, as well as reward certificates. These mean the child is praised along the way, building their confidence and providing hours of endless play.

This colorful keyboard-top playset works in conjunction with the CD and simulates a cash register in a store. Instead of using the mouse, kids manipulate the register buttons on the playset to make things happen on the screen. Children ring in sales, make change and play games in six different departments including Snack Bar, Electronics, Clothing, Pet, Grocery and Toy. There might be three customers waiting in the Grocery Department, for instance, each one buying a different set of groceries. Some items have to be scanned with the scanner, while other items' prices have to be entered on the cash register. The process is pretty much the same for each department, making the game play fairly repetitive. Six additional activities are thrown in- kids may match clothing items, play a music sequencing activity with the playset's keys or race toys in the Toy department. While these games add some play time to the playset, their focus is superficial and not long lasting. We were disappointed in the implementation of the cash register, seeing missed opportunities for teaching because of an underestimation of preschoolers' math and logic abilities. We wished for more counting and addition activities. Design features like the ability to save games and interrupt the narration were also missing, decreasing the overall value of the package. Testers had a positive first reaction to the program, and they loved getting their hands on the cash register. Because of the limited activities, however, we question how long the store will hold children's interest.

This game is one of the best value for money games that I have seen for small children. If you have a child who loves to play at shops and learn at the same time this is the perfect choice.
The keyboard is so simple to attach, just a piece of elastic which clips under the board and it is very durable and will not break very easily. It can even withstand the use of older children who also argue about who is going to have a go next as they like it so much!
It is very suitable for a very yound child as it is so easy to use but interesting enough to keep even the older ones happy. It is educational, interactive and colourful, your children will love it.
It is especially good for children who have learning difficulties which my son has. He attends a special school and all the children are capable of interacting in one way or another.
I cannot recommend this product enough for small children. They also produce two other similar CD's, Tonka Joe's Workshop and Easy Bake Oven they are just as good as this. If I could give it ten stars I would. You will not be disappointed at all with this game.
