Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Discover the secrets of Hogwarts in this version of the classic mystery game.

Enjoy new game play features and a moving Hogwarts game board.

Dark magic has been performed at Hogwarts.

A fellow student has vanished from the famous School of Witchcraft and Wizardry—and it is up to you to solve the mysterious disappearance.

Play as Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Luna or Neville and try to discover WHO did it, WHAT spell or item they used, and WHERE the student was attacked.

Was it Draco Malfoy with a Sleeping Draught in the Owlery?

Move around Hogwarts making suggestions- but watch out. Wheels on the board actually move to reveal secret passages, hidden staircases, and even the Dark Mark.

Think you’ve gathered all the facts you need? Go to Dumbledore’s office to make your final accusation to win the game.

Kids will love taking on the roles of their favourite Harry Potter characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Cluedo isn't for wimps!, 28 Mar 2009

This game will appeal to anyone interested in Harry Potter or Cluedo. But if you think it won't test an adult, think again! The appearance of the Dark Mark (via turns of the House wheels, or the special die) will frequently deplete your investigating character of House points as trouble rears its head! If those points drop to zero, you're out of the game! This makes the game tougher. And this is why some players have expressed frustration with it.

There is no way in the rules to restore your character's House points! So ensure that your character quickly gets as many Help cards (allies, spells and items) as you can whilst crossing the board. This will help keep you in the game, whilst investigating which suspicious character is a kidnapper, how they did the deed, and in which room.

If that tip's not enough, then do what I did - and add a modification to the rules! My idea was to lay 'Extra Help' squares around the board(face down, along with some red-herring blanks), and have them restore lost House points with comments like "Professor Snape grudgingly awards you 10HP for passing a Potions test". In a test run, these helped three friends and I to play a game for over an hour and a half. Only in the last ten minutes did 2 of us drop out of the game!

Other points: the design is good (including the locking/unlocking doors and changing secret passages), and the cards cover a range of characters (even Cormac McLaggen gets mentioned!). Shame that Profs Moody and Lupin don't get referred to by name.

Summary - my friends and I enjoyed it. Just do what you can to keep those House points in your deck!

    2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 1 Nov 2008

This version of Cluedo will be a desirable game for Harry Potter fans and the general premise and style of Cluedo remain. However there are two distinct differences; the addition of a third dice allows for the board to shift- locking doors and opening and closing new secret passages AND (crucially) the collection of "dark" cards that can cost points and only be countered by the collection of help cards. It is here that the game is deeply flawed because the accumulation of too many dark cards leads to a premature removal from the game, not a good idea for a game aimed at 9-14 year olds. Did Parkers not test run this game?

Played throughout the Christmas holidays with our two children who really enjoyed the added twist of the 'Dark mark' and 'Help' cards, the movement of the doorways and the losing of house points. The first game when to Voldermort as we all lost. However it didn't put us off and we set off on another game to see if we could win. We've had a great deal of fun and laughter playing this game so far and the children are keen to keep playing. Well worth the money, although cheaper at Toys 'r' us.
