Simply set up the brightly coloured plastic Spirograph frame over a piece of plain paper, pick one of the Spirograph wheel stencils, guide the wheel along the outside of the frame with a coloured pen and let the creative juices flow as patterns and designs appear on the paper.

I had memories of spirograph being a lot of fun, so this seemed like a good choice for my eldest daughter (Six years). However, I have been disappointed by this set, as it's hard to achieve anyhting useful. The instructions show some great results, but it's not always clear how to follow the instructions to achieve similar results. The pieces don't fit particularly well adding further complications. My daughter doesn't play with this much anymore. She just got disappointed that she wasn't able to achieve much more than a few squirly patterns, depsite my help.

If like me and my wife you remember the original spirograph, you will be tempted to buy this offering for your own children. Take my advice and DONT DO IT. The whole appeal of the original spirograph was that you could easily create many layered/coloured spiral master pieces. With the "new improved" spirograph it is nearly impossible to create anything other than a small spiral. The wheels and attatchments do not stay in the frame. the paper comes adrift from the frame and my son, wife and I find it very difficult to create the fantastic shapes shown on the box and instructions. This was wasted money!! My son who loves art and creative things will not play with this set because it is to hard. RUBBISH!!!

We bought this for Lucy who is almost 5, but as the other reviewers have pointed out, it's just too hard for a small child. I can't believe that we 40+ year olds were more dexterous - I remember creating some very satisfying patterns on my own spirograph - so I can only assume that the toy's structure has been changed over the years. I don't know how durable the toy is - it's made of strong stuff, but as Lucy has only played with it for about half an hour, it hasn't been truly put the test.
