This is a variation of the gametype started years ago with 'Simon' - an electronic game based on the old parlour game 'Simon says' - it would flash colours and you had to follow the patterns. With Hyperslide, you are given four coloured pucks which you have to slide under the plastic bridge when prompted for the appropriate colour by a rather cheesy American voice. Somehow it knows which colour you've chosen. It all gets rather hectic as the time allowed to satisfy the colours demanded gets shorter and shorter. Your score is based on how many times you can do it.
There's a one-player game which involves attaching a rubber band to make the pucks bounce back, but the most fun is had when playing against an opponent - each player starts with two pucks, and the machine somehow keeps track of which player has the pucks. It's clever and fun, and like Bop It Extreme 2 it relies on the difficulty we all have in following instructions (for some reason it's similar to patting your head and rubbing your tummy - the brain has problems with it!!!).
There are 3 variations to the game: the basic one described above (1 and 2 player); a one-player codebreaking game where you have to work out the four colour code in the shortest time (of limited appeal); and a memory game where the sequence demanded is extended by one more each time (1 and 2 player versions).
I liked the feature which records the highest all-time and current session records.
I bought this for my 8-year-old and he wasn't very impressed - the adults had a bit of fun with it though. I have to say that Bop It was better, as it contained similar types of games but with buttons you flick or twist instead (to a funky beat that makes you end up dancing!). If you like this type of game, get Bop It Extreme 2 instead.
