4.0 out of 5 stars Harvest moon : gamecube, 7 April 2004
This review is from: Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (GameCube) (Video Game)
You've inherited your dads farm and now you've got to run it.
Quite an in-depth game with a lot of detail. You have to milk the cows, wash them, love them, feed them - not only that but you have to take into account their fertility too.
Theres a lot to do here including raising crops where you have to hoe the land, plant seeds and water them at regular times. Theres also a business side of things where you can sell dairy products in the local town and import all sorts of animals, fruit and veg, tools and buildings for your farm. And you can't buy any of them unless you've got a staedy income going so you've got a lot of work to do including trying to get married and have a family! PHEW!
Not disimilar to games such as the Sims this beautiful little game will have you glued to your TV. Even more addictive than Tetris!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Harvest moon provides one of the most original games ever!, 17 Dec 2004
This review is from: Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (GameCube) (Video Game)
I've always loved harvest moon games, so when i heard one was coming out on the gamecube I couldn't wait to play it. The game itself starts off very differently to other harvest moon games, if you've played them before. In this game you start off at a farm but this time the game doesnt really rely on your crops but instead on your interaction with other characters. The game spans over a 30 year period so you can see the world around you change over time and the characters around you change, for example some characters might move into your town , move out or maybe die. Although I said crops aren't a major factor this time around you can still plant them, they just don't really get you that much money compared to the high prices of milk. Theres a new feature in the game where you cna make hybrid crops too, which I think is a great idea and adds further depth to the game.

The game this time has months of 10 days, which doesnt sound too long, but when one day takes you 24 minutes they are defintely long enough! The graphics are excellent, when you change seasons its gradually done day by day rather than instantly, so for example you can see leaves slowy falling off trees in the Fall.

The game like previous harvest moon games focuses also on you getting married, there are 3 girls to chose from each with very different characteristics. It's important you marry a girl you like because it will alter the outcome of your future, as early in the second year you will have a child to look after!! You have to get married by the end of the first year, so this is really one of your main abjectives to begin with.

The range of animals availble this time has increased, there are now different breeds of cows available and bulls. Theres also sheep, goats, chickens, dogs, cats, ducks and a horse for you to ride around your town on.

The only downside i thought of the game is the fact that it takes ages for the days to go by, and although there seems a lot to do, to beign with, you start doing things for the sake of it instead of somehting new to do. I kept on going fishing when i had nothing to, which can become tedious after a while. I'd also like to have seen more to do with farming because as the game suggests its a farming sim. I used to quite like having to clean up your farm at the beginning of the game and maintaining it, I also liked the role of crops in the previous games.

So inconclusion this game is really just what the gamecube wanted, something different, and something original. If you havent played previous versions of the game it doesnt matter, as this game is quite different to their approach anyway. I'd therefore recommend this game to anybody as long as they have the patience to get into this sort of game, because if you don't you probably won't get very far as this game certainly needs dedication. The game sets itself perfectly for a seqaul as there are areas which could be addressed, but until that one is made, make the most of this version!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best game this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 8 Jun 2004
This review is from: Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life (GameCube) (Video Game)
I'm a fan of the Harvest Moon games and this one certinatly didn't disappoint. Newcomers to the series may be scepitical as it is a farming game but this is the best Gamecube game out at the momoment. The game is easy to get into but hard to master, I certinatley havn't mastered it and still immensly enjoy it A LOT! The jist of it is that you inherit a farm and you've got to make as much maoney as possible by selling your wares at a market stall. There are also chalenges to do with your social life ie. choosing a wife giving people stuff taking part in festivals and being a good guy. Theres also a Free-Play mode wich means you can farm forever. (Rather than ding of age in the other mode) So overall its easy to get into you don't have to be a crack gamer to enjoy it and you've got at least 40 hours of gameplay in it. I'd say definatley get it from Amazon as shops like Game charge £39.99 and you get free delivery with Amazon. Also remember to get a memory card as well as the game takes up about 54 blocks I'd definatley get an official one of those as I was lured by the £3 price tag and it lost all my data grrr. These cost about a tenner and they are definatly worth. This game is the best you'll buy all year.
