British electronic music: the usual suspects - too clever for their own good, too studenty and trying too hard to be cool.
"Harvest Festival": by contrast, is straight-up and unpretentious, made by someone who cares about the music. The vibe on this record is an inclusive one - made without any commercial concerns, yet certain to have a broad appeal. It kind of puts me in mind of early Warp releases, but maybe with a bit of 10CC, Trevor Horn, Aphex Twin and Vangelis thrown in.
AND...hidden amongst all the "tracks" there are two proper songs, both excellent: the atmospheric "Lime (Home Time)" and the Robert Wyatt-meets-Spiritualized "Coconut Shy".
This is an LP to blow away the cobwebs and the bull***t and to put a smile on your face on a grey late autumn day.
