Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

As the saga of Harry Potter looms towards a conclusion at the cinema it's time for video games fans to get the game they've always wished for. Based on the blockbusting movie and the original novel, the first part of the Deathly Hallows finds Harry and his friends fighting for their lives in a much more action-orientated adventure than usual.

Take on the Death Eaters in amazing third person action
Battle with a friend in the exclusive Kinect levels
Spells can be used for defence as well as attack
He may be a wizard but Harry still needs to take cover

The time for exploring Hogwarts and solving puzzles is over, as the young wizards battle Death Eaters and Lord Voldemort himself. The game is designed like a third person action title, complete with an intuitive cover system but with a wand as your only weapon.

Not all of the spells are purely for attack though, with Leviosa allowing you to create and destroy cover and Confundo giving you the power to turn enemies into allies for a brief period. There's never been a Harry Potter game like this before, with enough action and intrigue to suit every fan.

Key Features
  • Action Hero: The most action-packed Harry Potter game ever with intense third person combat, stunning graphics and a huge range of new spells to learn.
  • Wizards' Armoury: Use a range of authentic attacking spells from the simple Stupefy to more powerful but difficult to use magic such as Crucio and Expelliarmus.
  • Dark Arts: Use non-lethal spells such as Leviosa to move objects, Confundo to bewitch enemies, and Expecto Patronum to rescue allies from Dementors.
  • Levelling Up: Gain experience as you fight and you can unlock and upgrade Harry's abilities and magic, with up to six different spells available at any one time.
  • Kinecting Fans: A unique co-operative two-player mode for the Xbox 360 version features support for the new Kinect motion control system.
About the Developer: EA Bright Light
This developer was founded in 2007 by Electronic Arts, after they bought Burnout developer Criterion Games. Also based in Guildford, Bright Light specialises in family games and has worked on the Harry Potter tie-ins as well as original titles such as Create and non-game projects like Flips.

Well its...different. 24 Nov 2010
Fun:
As a very expectant HP fan i found myself disappointed at the quality of the gameplay. i had expected a quick paced yet lengthy game that would take me a while to complete, it actually took a mere 6 hours. Its unfortunate that with this sort of game once you have completed it, thats it, your unlikely to play it again until maybe the next part comes out (which i hope is a dramatic improvement). Couldn't EA have added bonus games that actually interest the player at the end of the game? One point to make is that the manufacturer description is not quite correct, you don't get to learn "crucio" (part of the game i was looking forward to). The game is simply too easy, too simple and a massive let down, all you actually do as a gameplayer is press RT about 50,000 times and "Wehey" you'be completed the game. On the plus side, the graphics are good but i feel this game is a huge let down and almost opposes what JK Rowling wanted to get across in her book, that Harry doesn't want to actually hurt anyone unless he has too, where as this game is full of pointless fighting. Big Disappointment EA, taken not so much a step back from HBP, more a huge leap, please sort it out before part 2!

Awful! 21 Nov 2010
Fun:
I have played every harry potter game so thought would carry on the tradition and purchase this one. first the things i liked about the past potter games are the variety in game-play , puzzles and adventure.
none of these exist in this game! all you do is walk around boring un-original, un-inspired maps shooting!! with absolutely nothing else but repeatedly pull the right trigger, you will soon grow very tired and bored of this game!
This game is also a rubbish representation of the story at at points i feel parts of the story are ruined by this games 'lets make this as cheap as possible approach'.
you can use kinect with this game which i cannot personally review as i dont have the hardware although it just sounds like a couple of mini-games to try stop you feeling as mugged as a muggle!
game-play graphics are not bad however expect to get many close ups of rocks with the awful camera, and the cutscenes are probably amongst the worst quality i've seen.
Please dont make the same mistake as i did and purchase this game !
For such a short game it feels such a long dull effort !

Fun:
:-( ... See this face :-( ... That's how annoyed I am after playing the new Harry Potter game on the XBOX. Mr EA boss man... Listen here... If I wanted to play Call of Duty dressed as Harry Potter, I'd have bought said game, a wizards hat, round glasses and a wand!

I, like most of the others on here have played and completed all the previous HP games and loved them for their diversity of game play, through the use of puzzles, applying logic and having knowledge of the plot in order to complete tasks and challenges. This game however seems to have ditched everything that set HP games apart and has followed the same old "let's just get bad guys cropping up here, there and everywhere that you need to shoot,/find cover/throw things at!"

I know the film has taken a darker turn than it's predecessors but was that really a sound enough reason to change the format of these games so drastically! Surely, just make the challenges harder make cut scenes more sinister, but if it ain't broke don't fix it! Yes, Call of Duty might be one of the best games in history... But if I wanted to play CoD I'd have bought CoD! bad move EA... Bad move!

Also... Tried the Kinect game out too... It just gave me severe arm ache after 4 minutes of solid flicking of the arm/wrist... I failed the first challenge... Mainly cos it was not truly responsive to your movements and you just had to do the same thing over and over and over and over... Get the idea!

Overall... I am terribly disappointed! Just hoping Lego Harry Potter years 5-7 are worth the wait! Boo hiss EA... You've ruined my evening and my bank balance to the tune of £40! Thanks a bunch
