Product Description

Harry Potter is lucky to reach the age of thirteen, since he has survived the murderous attacks of the feared Dark Wizard Voldemort three times. But his hopes for a quiet term concentrating on Quidditch are dashed when a maniacal mass-murderer escapes from Azkaban, pursued by the soul-sucking Dementors who guard the prison. It's assumed that Hogwarts is the safest place for Harry to be. But is it a coincidence that he can feel eyes watching him in the dark, and should he be taking Professor Trelawney's ghoulish predictions seriously?

WOW!!! 28 Aug 2001
By A Customer
What more can I say, probably my favourite book out of the four currently published.

The plot thickens (as the saying goes), and what a plot. Darker and more exciting than ever before, Rowling seems to have become more acustomed to directing the books at adults as well as children and doesn't disappoint either age-group.

There are more twists and turns here than a kentish country lane, and the end is about as expected as 10 inches of snow in the middle of August! (although I suppose here in the UK anything can happen!)

The introduction of new character Remus Lupin (the new Defence of the Dark Arts) is one of the best yet, and although he only stays on for the one year, I am sure we will see more of him later.

The absence of the usual showdown between Harry & the dark lord at the end is inspired - we readers had come to expect it, and this twist goes to prove that nothing should be taken forgranted.

Despite the absence of an actual appearance by the dark lord, he is still very much in evidence, and with all the happenings with dementors, werewolves, hippogriffs and of course, Sirius Black there is never a dull moment and you dont even notice Voldemorts physical absence until the book is finished and you have stopped reeling from the shocking events at the end!

Most HP love this book and regard it as the best and I can see why. This book explains more than the other two concerning how Harry's parents where killed and what exactly happened that night. As usual there are twists and turns in the story right up to the end as Harry tries to get through third year knowing that Sirus Black, one of Voldermorts apparent right hand men has escaped from one of the most guarded prisons in the world: Azkaban and is after Harry.
To make matters worse, the Dementors, the guards that are after Black and are in Hogwarts to protect students are making Harry feel terrible.
The structure of this book is exactly the same as the previous two, which is not necessarily a bad thing, starting with the summer hoilidays with the Dursleys and then the year in Hogwarts.
In addition, the author gives us some more new secrets about the castle and introduces the all wizard town of Hogsmeade which has joke shops, sweet shops and haunted houses for the students to enjoy. The new chracters to look out for this time are Professer Lupin, the new Defence against... teacher (Have Harry and Ron finally got a decent one!) and Professer trelawney, the Divination teacher and just as Lockhart was in chamber of secrets she is just as eccentric!
Basically just by it! you know yo'll love it.

The Best Book Ever 17 Jun 2001
I think that this Harry Potter book is by far the best out of all four. The cast of characters are just exciting. With Remus Lupin, Sirius (seer-e-us) Black, and Severus Snape, this book is just plain exciting. It's interesting to find out even more about Harry's past and his father and mother. The end was really a turn in the story. There are a couple of what I think may be printing errors but they may just be clues to the later books (Voldemort's been in hiding 15 years?). An awesome book. Definitely worth reading and re reading. If you haven't read the other books, go out and read them now! As usual, J.K. Rowling captivates readers, although this book is directed to older readers (around 11 in my opinion). I love Sirius Black and Remus Lupin in this book!

It's immensely encouraging to see children's fiction written with this much care and planning. Philosopher's Stone had bags of ideas if ultimately a fairly slight plot. Read more
