Product Description

From the acquisition of the film rights to the casting of Harry, Ron, and Hermione and the assembly of the creative team, Harry Potter: Page to Screen is a unique, behind-the-scenes look at the making of one of the most popular film series in cinema history, as told by the people who made the magic real. Harry Potter: Page to Screen traces the cinematic process of bringing J.K. Rowling's beloved books to big-screen life. From the moment the book was optioned to the last film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, this book reveals all the filming secrets, never-before-seen images, and the most memorable moments real and fictional of the Harry Potter saga. Comprehensive interviews, quotes, and stories from the Harry Potter creative team and cast round out the hundreds of images, providing context and an insightful, in-depth look at the inner-workings of the Potter world. Daniel Radcliffe recounts how his personal life was shaped by playing Harry Potter; his narration sets the tone for the book and connects the many voices of the Harry Potter family. Not only do Radcliffe and his fellow cast members discuss the reality of growing up Potter, they also reflect on the countless memories that made the Potter experience so unique: meeting J.K. Rowling; Richard Harris's (the original Dumbledore) death; the effects of 9-11 on the cast and crew; and the day to day experience of bringing a film to life. Fully supported by Warner Bros. Entertainment, Harry Potter: Page to Screen is created by the same team responsible for the hugely successful Harry Potter: Film Wizardry, and is sure to delight Muggles everywhere. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Truly Magical 21 Oct 2011
By Quinn
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
What can I say about the book... wow. I pre-ordered a copy after seeing the promotional youtube video and was thrilled to receive my copy today (quite a bit earlier than expected, thanks amazon). I was instantly overwhelmed by the size of it - it is incredibly heavy and visually stunning. The hardback cover is sturdy with beautiful presentation and a lovely picture of Hogwarts on the front. There is no tacky blurb or explanation of the book on the back cover either which is refreshing. The sheer volume of information and pictures inside the book make it worth the money as there are behind the scenes photographs, cast interviews, beautiful artistic impressions and photographs of many details you may have missed while watching the movies. My favourites include the fold-out intricate drawings of the Death Eater masks and the wonderfully detailed plan of Hogwarts.
The contents are as follows:
'Part I: The Making of Harry Potter' contains sections for each movie including introductions, photographs, descriptions, sketches and how each director/screenwriter etc faced challenges in adapting the book and how they accomplished it. There is a breakdown of important sequences from the movie so you can learn how they created The Battle of Hogwarts, Illuminating the Inferi etc. My only complaint in that the first book/movie is listed as 'Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone' which annoyed me a little as I'm British and remain loyal to the Philosophers Stone (of course).
'Part II: The Art of Harry Potter' covers each character/costumes, locations/set design, creatures/special makeup and digital effects and artifacts/prop making. The concept art is breathtaking and I was thoroughly interested in how they brought all the magical creatures to life on the big screen. There are sections in the book for everything you can imagine - The Sorting Hat, how they made a Howler, the creation of Fawkes, Dragons, Dementors... the amount of detail is overwhelming.
'Part III: Epilogue' - Very short section with acknowledgements and pictures of the cast from the last day on set.
I was surprised by the amount of care that has gone into creating this book as it is wonderful. The detail is breathtaking and I can't think of a single thing they've missed. This is the perfect gift for a Harry Potter fan... unless you don't want to ruin the magic of course.

Spellbinding 21 Oct 2011
By MrMate
Format:Hardcover
The thing which surprised me the most when it arrived (6 days before release I might add)was the sheer size of the book. Its officially the biggest book I own now, and that includes all my textbooks. The 500+ page number descriptor is true, but what isn't noted is that many of the pages fold out to display very long and detailed features or artwork.

Speaking of the imagery, its a spectacle to behold. There is an ideal balance of film production shots, and the never-before-seen concept art. The photos from the making of the films are perfectly linked with the text, and provide real insight into how the scenes were prepared and made so seamless on screen. It's the artwork though which is a real winner. It's fantastic to see early visualisations of what we've all come to see on screen. There are some truly 'wow' pieces of art including long-shots of Hogwarts and the Flying Keys in Philosopher's Stone.

The book is divided into several sections including the specific films, then there's are sections for characters, locations, creatures, and artefacts. Each section includes it's own contents page to make navigating this large book quite efficient. One of my favourite inclusions in this text is the blue-print of Hogwarts - its very VERY detailed.

To summarise, this book is an essential read for Harry Potter fans. I recieved 'Film Wizardry' last Christmas, and thoroughly enjoyed it, but this is something else. Its 3x longer and 3x more detailed. I was worried that a lot of the information would be repeated but am happy to report that it isn't the case. Go on, treat yourself to what I am starting to think might become the ultimate Harry Potter reference book on the market.

Format:Hardcover
The book as a whole is such high quality, and the pages, the photos and the text they put together. It is over 500 pages and it's like a HP Encyclopedia :D Everything you will ever wonder about making the films, about the characters and the places. It's like magic!
