I had been meaning for some time to make a start on brushing up my school-classroom French, especially the aural comprehension which had been quite neglected for many a year, and this Harry Potter French audio book seemed to me to be as good a place to start as any. Although I like all of the other Harry Potter books too. this first one in the series is still my favourite; the boy wizard's first year at the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. The unabridged mp3 cd is very modestly priced at the moment at Amazon UK, unlike the eye-watering prices which the older cd editions used to command, and still do at some outlets.
The vocabulary is undemanding, as befits a story intended primarily for younger readers, and Bernard Giraudeau reads with great enthusiasm and an impressive range of "voices" for the different characters. But I should alert you, if you too are thinking of buying this book, B.G reads it very quickly in places, notably during some of the dialogue involving the three main characters. For the first reading I found it useful to follow the spoken word with the text in the French paperback edition which I still have.
Although I would hesitate to recommend this cd to anyone who doesn't already have something of an ear for the French spoken word, it certainly serves the purpose for which I bought it.
