Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Preview

Just as the Harry Potter movies seem to be getting better with each sequel, so to the games have been improving with every new release. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire shows every sign of being the best yet with a greater emphasis on playing all the characters and not just Harry.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione are all playable (and they look like the actors from the film too) and each has their own special abilities, strengths and weakness. These can be augmented by collecting and using Collector's and Creature Cards as well, almost like a proper role-playing game.

Perhaps the games greatest draw though, other than much improved graphics, is the co-operative mode which allows you to play all the way through the game with up to two friends joining in. There’ll be no arguments over who gets to be Harry either as everyone has to work together with the most powerful spells only being possible by everyone combining their powers. The spell casting itself works in a different way than before with the analogue controllers being used to move your wand around on screen--you can even feel it shake as the rumble pack of your controller kicks in.

Harry haters still won’t enjoy this on principle, and to be honest it’s neither the most original or difficult game ever made, but for fans of the films and books it looks absolutely wizard. -- Harrison Dent

Manufacturer's Description

Harry, Ron, and Hermione are back! The Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire videogame will release in November in conjunction with the Warner Bros. Pictures film based on J.K. Rowling's fourth book. Experience the thrilling moments of the movie and put your magic to the ultimate test in co-operative play with up to two friends.

In the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire videogame, licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Harry is mysteriously selected as the fourth contestant in the dangerous Triwizard Tournament. Each competitor in the international competition must confront a fire-breathing dragon, rescue friends from the icy depths of the Black Lake, and navigate the twisting mysteries of a vast, dangerous maze. Players can experience the thrills of the movie from the Quidditch World Cup campsite to a heart-stopping duel with Lord Voldemort himself!

Harry, Ron, and Hermione are all playable characters, modeled after their big-screen counterparts. An all-new spell-casting system allows players to really feel the magic for the first time as the controller shakes and reacts with every flick of the wand. Gamers can team up with friends in co-operative play to combine magic and produce more powerful spells than ever before!

1.0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment, 6 Dec 2005
By A Customer
The previous Harry Potter games each got progressively better and so I had expected this to be the best yet, but sad to say it is not.

The graphics, to be fair, are superb, but the absence of mouse control is a pain. It is virtually impossible to play this game from the keyboard.

There is no control over the sound if as in my case control is via the multimedia keyboard.

I am told that a game pad is the answer, however this is nowhere on the packaging offered as a suggestion.
I would suggest that parents buying for Christamas should look at this option otherwise I think there will be some sad kids Christmas day.

Be sure and check that your PC meets the spec required

There is no way that I would have bought this if I had the chance to try it out

1.0 out of 5 stars GoF - a let down and waste of money, 26 Nov 2005
By A Customer
After playing all the other HP games I thought this one would be the best. It is not. In fact, it is terrible. I have re-installed the game 3 times now and it still doesn't run properly. The game isn't intuitive and you cannot always tell what you are supposed to do or where to go. Also you spend most of your time running away from or battling with nasty creatures (approx 90-95%) and it is now tedious. The graphics are extremely good but are spoiled because of the game itself.

There is also no mouse control or any basic options like sound, speed of Harrys movement etc. If you are on broadband it is not a good idea to disable your anti-virus but you really need to if the game is to run anything like smoothly.

One very annoying thing about the game is if you get a shield you are taken back to the pensieve rather than being allowed to finish the level and you have to go back and collect more shields (being taken back to the pensieve each time).

Would I buy this again. Definitely not. I feel like I have been conned. I have given the game 1 star but only because that was the lowest rating offered.

1.0 out of 5 stars Severe let down it all areas, 13 Nov 2005
This is simply a PS2 game and a crap one.
With others that've followed this game series im disgusted with this game.

The graphics might not be so bad if had the option to use some pc power and up the graphical settings but there is no way to do that! Not even a file i can edit to try and raise the resolution. As a result its locked in horrid looking 800-600at best. Almost all the spells are some kind of wobbly ray effects that also look ugly. The visuals are quite messy.
I'm lucky to have a duel shock gamepad but the controls are very unresponsive and slow. With pc version you don’t get any feedback from the rumblepacks. Trying to aim is frustrating, the camera is unadjustable and camera movement is the worst ive ever seen. You dont seem to have any real control.
The levels are very platform like. Very limited views. Wandering around exploring hogwarts for all its little tricks and in'n'out is gone. Now its a level unlock system. You are expected to do the same levels over and over, The same lame mindnumbing puzzles over and over just to find that missing shield to progress.
AI of the other caracters is useless so really your expected to play with friends, its the only way they really work together. but still the controlls hamper any team efforts.
You collect tiny, insignificant beans by the hundreds for some movie stills/cards that dont add anything or improve the game. Rewards of all this is meaningless. Your probably going to watch the movie anyway so could have at least given behind scenes images instead.

To think probably a load of people worked on this to get EA some easy money. There’s nothing fun about this game. Theres none of the magic and simple pleasure which captured even quite a few adults such as myself in the last instalments.

I'll make this easy for you.. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!! It's not worth a fiva!. If your really desperate, wait for or talk a mate with a console into getting it. You'll be doing them a favour helping them with it.
