Hi there Amazonians, greetings and thanks for stopping to read this. I'm the author of nine novels and the latest, THE BUTTERFLY SUMMER, is out now. It is a big juicy novel about families and secrets and a forgotten crumbling house on a creek in Cornwall and I am so proud of it. It was really hard to write and I did more research than any of my other books so far and for once i can't wait for it to be published as I really want to talk about it with other people! I have become obsessed with butterflies after writing it but don't worry, there's no indepth butterfly biology or anything (most of it was cut due to being author showing off that she's done some research instead of author concentrating on the plot). Just hopefully a good story and a great read. That's what I want to do with my books, make the reader forget about everything and lose themselves in a world I've created.
I live in London, with my partner and our two daughters, one is four and will either rule the world one day or be its downfall, she's pretty determined. Mainly not to eat anything except pasta. The other one is only six weeks old so I don't know what she's like yet, except she has very soft hair on the back of her head and seems to believe the hours between midnight and 7am are party hours. Humph. In my spare time (hahaha) I like reading, karaoke, visiting old houses, drinking cocktails (I have a six week old baby, quite a lot of this list is wish fulfillment to be honest) and watching the Golden Girls (am acing that one at the moment). I have always lived in London but want to live in a house in the countryside with dogs and wild flowers in the back garden and all that. This will probably never happen as I like being within walking distance of a variety of takeaways.
Before becoming a fulltime writer I worked in publishing as an editor for many years. I'd look at some authors whose books I'd not particularly enjoyed who sold loads of copies and think well, I can do that! So eventually I realised I'd have to fulfill my life-long ambition and try writing a book because how hard can it be? Now I know the answer which is: er, kind of pretty hard. But it's the best job in the world (apart from acting in musicals which one day I also hope to do *stop kidding yourself & get back to work*). It means you can go into a world you've created day after day. When you are there nothing else matters. It's a very strange way to spend your day; but I absolutely love it.
