Product Description

Review

Warden & Copeland have had a slightly chequered start. After and eponymous debut assembled early singles and EP cuts, they fell out with record label Little League who retaliated with a spoiler set of demos. Now their name is finally on an album of new songs, an empahtic step on in fashioning electronic - tinged budget beat pop confections they claim "will ooze from your i-Pod like tracle from a harpsichord". At least half the time they're not wrong. Kicking Around's repeated stroked-guitar figure sets up a hypnotic wash like waves on a beach, The Northern Song evokes The Associations' sunshine pop and Hand Me Downs is a wistful Carnaby St snap shot framed by Omnichord Oscillations. Harpsichord Treacle is an engaging search for pop mania.. --Mojo March 2008

CD Description

the mighty superimposers, dan warden and miles copeland, return with the long awaited third album on their brand new wonderfulsound label. an engaging, soulful mix of warm, vintage instrumentation, peerless melodic sensibilities and fuzzy psychedelia. these guys are one of the true hidden gems of british music, harking back to the heady days of maverick originals like ray davies, ronnie lane and syd barrett, exquisite song writing and lush, symphonic production.

This was a recent album of the month from The Album Club, otherwise I simply wouldn't have heard of this band or their latest offering. Harpsichord Treacle is hard to classify - and that's probably part of the appeal - but it's trippy, catchy stuff, very much influenced to my mind by Beatles and Beach Boy harmonies. No harm in that at all - but despite the catchy, melodic tunes on offer here, by the time you reach the end of the album they're all beginning to sound a tad the same. Nevertheless - worth a listen.
