There are several solo harpsichord LPs by Albert Fuller that contained exemplary performances, but this is not one of them. For some reason, Fuller has decided that Bach's music needs, or can tolerate, some enormous romantic-sounding ritards and other deviations from strict tempo. You can hear what I mean at the end of the first phrase of the Italian Concerto, which nearly stops dead. Roadblocks like this occur frequently enough to neutralize all the fine work Fuller does in between. For a great introduction to Bach's harpsichord works try Igor Kipnis (Sony Classical SBK 53263). --Leslie Gerber
