About the Author
Joan Aiken was born in Sussex, where she lives now. Her father was the American poet, Conrad Aiken. She began writing at the age of five, and hasn't stopped since, intermitted by two marriages and two children. Since the early 1960s, over 90 of her books have been published for both adults and children. Previous titles include The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, Cape (1962), Black Hearts in Battersea, Cape (1964), A Bundle of Nerves, Gollancz (1976), The Winter Sleepwalker, Cape (1994).
