Synopsis

America's favourite pothead pals, Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn), return with an uproariously un-PC sequel that skewers everything from racial prejudice to the president of the United States. HAROLD AND KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY picks up shortly after the first film, cult favourite HAROLD AND KUMAR GET THE MUNCHIES, as the boys plan an impromptu trip to the Mecca of Marijuana: Amsterdam. There, Harold will unite with the love of his life and Kumar will achieve cannabis bliss. The two soon find themselves in hot water when Kumar sneaks a bong onto the flight and is mistaken for a bomb-wielding terrorist. Indeed, after a run-in with racist Homeland Security agent Ron Fox (Rob Corddry of THE DAILY SHOW), the two land in the hottest water of all: Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After escaping from prison and fleeing back to the U.S., the two set out across country to get help from Harold's politically connected former classmate, who is also marrying the girl that Kumar let get away. Along this oddball odyssey they will encounter incestuous rednecks, the KKK, gun-toting prostitutes, and a drugged-out Neil Patrick Harris (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER). But when the ex-classmate turns the two over to the authorities, Harold and Kumar must use their wits--plus a dash of luck and a dose of humility--to earn their freedom, win back their respective loves, and save their friendship.
Original writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg return for both screenwriting and directing credits, ensuring that the budding franchise retains the same subversive sensibility while upping the audacity of its satire. Frequently raunchy but revelling in the bonds of acceptance and friendship, HAROLD AND KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY is a madcap romp that delivers plenty of humorous highs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and funny movie, 27 Sep 2008

I would definately recommmend to watch Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay provided you are looking for a movie which is really funny and to brighten your day. The movie is about two close friends. One is Korean (Harold) and the other is Indian (Kumar) who are American citizens.

The movie follows the hilarious and absurd adventures of the duo as fugutives. The duo are escaping the clutches of the government and FBI agents, who are America's most wanted. The journeys takes them to the deep South and their friendship is really challenged through tough times, but viewed in a funny context.

Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay is a movie ideally suited as a source of entertainment to brighten your day. It is a feel good movie.

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny In Places, 18 Oct 2008
By Malcolm Clarke (Durham, UK) - See all my reviews
The sequel picks up from exactly where the last film ended, with Harold & Kumar jetting to Amsterdam to find Harolds new love interest, that developed during the first film. This is a film that can be watched independantly of seeing the first film, but in my opinion you should watch the first film because the concept is so much more tidy than this film, which is simply moving around to stay hidden after they escape their imprisonment.

For parents, note that there are certain parts of this film that bank on the pure lewd, hence the rating. I thought certain parts of the film where funny in the same way the original film made you laugh. There are parts of this film, particularly the part inside Guantanamo Bay that a parent could not let a young child watch, it goes too far.

Neil Patrick Harris again features, and plays a good part. On the whole, after they escape, the film definitely improves and we are introduced to Kumars love interest, a facet of his character that was not covered at all in the first film. The ending brings the film together nicely, but by the time the ending does come around, they have probably stretched the whole "realistic" idea further than what the original film offered.

A worthwhile watch, with an open mind!

1.0 out of 5 stars Nonsense of Humour, 18 Oct 2008
By Peter Roxburgh (Dorset, UK) - See all my reviews

My wife and I both enjoyed the first Harold and Kumar movie (Get the Munchies). It was a simple but funny movie.

Having seen the trailer for this one, including Texas George, we thought it would be just as funny, if not funnier.

We were very wrong. I suppose we should've guessed from the '18' rating that all the jokes were going to be extremely crude and disgusting. from the 'cockmeat sandwich' to the 'bottomless' party, it wasn't funny.

Fortunately, the DVD got stuck at a particular point and we couldn't be bothered to try and get it to work again.

Please do not bother even watching this movie unless you are a 15 year old boy who loves crude jokes. Definitely do NOT waste your money on it either.
