By Mirage HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
for the Usborne First Reading series of books.

USBORNE FIRST READING is graded into FOUR levels and this particular book is: LEVEL FOUR.

From the back cover:-

'Harry Hare loves running - and he loves talking about it too.
When he suggests a race, nobody expects Tom Tortoise to take up the challenge.
Does Tom really think he can beat the fastest hare in history?'

Colourful and durable hard-board covers open to 48 high quality shiny pages in the popular 2-page spread format.
Numbered pages, complete with royal blue bookmark to keep your place!
Vivid illustrations throughout, from Daniel Howarth, which are further enhanced by meaningful facial expressions.
Clear text, enhanced by speech bubbles, in places.

Example of text:-

'Harry Hare loved running more than anything in the world.

Every morning, he woke up and went for a run.
Then he ran to work, ran around all day, and ran home.

Everyone said he was the fastest hare around - maybe the fastest in history.
Harry was sure of it.

Tom Tortoise worked with Harry.
All day long, he heard Harry boasting.
He didn't think Harry was so special......'

And Harry Hare is a rather naughty in regularly criticizing the speed of Tom Tortoise and, one day, it happens just once too often.
Much to everyone's amazement, and some amusement, the boastful hare IS taken up on his challenge to "a RACE" by "Tommy Slowcoach"!
The forthcoming "event" makes it into the newspapers......and even appears on TV..........as things hot up for the following Saturday......

......however, things don't turn out quite as planned, as we find out at the end of this delightful, fast-paced version of the classic tale!

From pages 44-48 'About this story:-

"The Hare and the Tortoise" is one of Aesop's fables, a collection of stories first told in Ancient Greece around 4,000 years ago......'
The stories are often about animals and they always have a "moral" (a message or lesson) at the end........'

Other titles from LEVEL FOUR include:-

Percy and the Pirates
The Ugly Duckling
The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse
Princess Polly and the Pony
Little Red Riding Hood
