Product Description

The third film in the 'Die Hard' series sees Bruce Willis return once more as the resourceful, vest-wearing New York cop John McClane. This time round, McClane becomes involved in a twisted game of Simon Says when an evil terrorist (Jeremy Irons) sends him dashing all over the city in an effort to find a series of explosive devices. Teaming up with electrician Zeus Carver (Samuel L. Jackson), McClane soon discovers that the bombs are an elaborate ruse intended to provide cover for a billion dollar bank job.

From Amazon.co.uk

The second sequel to the mould-making action film Die Hard brings Detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) to New York City to face a better villain than in Die Hard 2. Played by Jeremy Irons, he's the brother of the Germanic terrorist-thief Alan Rickman played in the original film. But this bad guy has his sights set higher: on the Federal Reserve's cache of gold. As a distraction, he sets McClane running fool's errands all over New York--and eventually, McClane attracts an unintentional partner, a Harlem dry cleaner (Samuel L Jackson) with a chip on his shoulder. Some great action sequences, though they can't obscure the rather large plot holes in the film's final 45 minutes. --Marshall Fine --This text refers to an alternate DVD edition.

First off there are different reviews on here saying Die Hard with a Vengeance is still cut on UK Blu-ray - it is not. I've had the uncut Region 1 DVD for years and now having compared it to the UK Blu-ray I can confirm it is uncut: there's more profanity put back in, more blood in the elevator shoot-out and knife scene. If there were any cuts remaining I sure couldn't spot them. Great film, great transfer, great sound.
NB: I watched the film as part of the Die Hard Legacy Boxset - I can't account for the stand alone release but logic dictates they would match.

In the third instalment of the Die Hard series, detective John McClane must obey a bomber's rules whilst trying to get along with electrician Zeus and recover from a really bad headache.

With an explosive beginning, literally, Die Hard with a vengeance starts as it means to go on with top notch action, adrenaline and an amazing appetite for adventure.

Willis (Moonlighting) returns as the iconic McClane and is juxtaposed with Samuel L Jackson (Pulp Fiction) as the nervous but intelligent electrician Zeus and as in Pulp Fiction, the two perform their hearts out in another excellent Die Hard film.

Filled with humour and one liners, both characters are enjoyable to watch and make the plot even more intense with witty dialogue.

Like the previous Die Hard films, there is plenty of action and a fast tense situation to keep you gripped to your seats. This time, there is a mad bomber on the other end of the telephone telling McClane riddles, and these little puzzles make the film intriguing and very intense as the stakes are raised with every puzzle, and include very dramatic national panics. There is a lack of realism, but the fast flowing nature will keep you hooked.

However this time there is less claustrophobia as McClane travels all over New York to solve the many puzzles. Though I loved the claustrophobic surroundings in the first two films, spreading his wings was necessary for McClane to be seen as a more wild and courageous man with more to do with himself, such as driving a taxi across a national park and searching for a bomb on a train, which were pure adrenaline rushes.

Jeremy Irons (Reversal of Fortune) is excellent as Simon and raised the bar for Jackson and Willis.

In my opinion, this is the best of them all. If not because of the plot, then because of Samuel L Jackson who brings a certain cool to everything he does. It's the usual adventure that results in Bruce Willis looking as though he has been covered in honey, stripped to his vest, and thrown in a pit of bears. An extemely clever man wants to play a twisted game of 'simon says' with Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson, the game set on a bigger scale, it isn't the usual 'simon says touch your nose' but more 'simon says get to the other side of new york in 20 minutes or a bomb goes off'. It is set on a hot summer's day in New York and has everything an action movie needs, many explosions, fabulous 1-liners and a sinister baddie. Geremy Irons is extemely good at playing an angry German. One of the most appealing things about this movie is the use of humour, it has a joke every 2 minutes. The pairing of Willis and Jackson makes this film come alive. I also like that it refers back to the first film in the series. It keeps you guessing to the end and leaves you feeling satisfied that yet again John McClane saves the day.

John McClane back for the third installment of the great Die Hard films. This time Samuel L Jackson makes an appearance as an innocent by stander who gets involved with John McClane in his battle to find a bomb in a school which has been out their by one of his old enemies. Yet again things get blown up, crashed, shot at and beaten up. Another must for action fans.

This product is region B encoded as it has been released in Australia so this is defiantly an import which is likely the reason for the price being a little steep.
However who knows how long it could be until Buena Vista decide to release this film on BD as they on the UK distribution rights not 20th Century Fox so it might be worth paying this price just to get your hands on it sooner rather than later.
In my opinion this is the second best in the Quad-Trilogy well worth the purchase.

Synopsis:

Bruce Willis returns as detective John McClane (Bruce Willis), who as always, is in the wrong place at the wrong time. In this adrenalin charged, action-packed thriller, things aren't going well for John McClane: his marriage is breaking up, he's been suspended from the force and now the brother of Hans Gruber, the German terrorist he threw off a building a few years back, is threatening to blow up a school if McClane doesn't run around the city solving his demeaning and dangerous puzzles. With the help of Zeus (Samuel L. Jackson), a Harlem electrician, McClane discovers Gruber's plot to distract the NYPD while he clears the federal bank of billions of dollars of gold.
