The second sequel to the mould-making action film Die Hard brings Detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) to New York City to face a better villain than in Die Hard 2. Played by Jeremy Irons, he's the brother of the Germanic terrorist-thief Alan Rickman played in the original film. But this bad guy has his sights set higher: on the Federal Reserve's cache of gold. As a distraction, he sets McClane running fool's errands all over New York--and eventually, McClane attracts an unintentional partner, a Harlem dry cleaner (Samuel L Jackson) with a chip on his shoulder. Some great action sequences, though they can't obscure the rather large plot holes in the film's final 45 minutes. --Marshall Fine

3.0 out of 5 stars Still a great movie, Still cut to bits. 29 April 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Even after 15 years it's still a great movie, But sadly this edition is still the UK cut version. Vault, Lift and chain scenes are still heavily edited and some bad language is dubbed with the lesser offensive words.

One other thing is they removed all mention of 20th Century Fox, No logo on the dvd menus or at the start of the movie, they even removed it from the end credits.

This is a real guy film.
Once again, Willis is back in is his role of the uncompromising, street wise, no nonsense New York cop, John McClane. But this time, McClane is partnered up with an unwitting, Samuel L Jackson. Yes, OK it is starting to smell like another Lethal Weapon movie, but wait, there’s more.
Along comes Jeremy Irons, who for me, and I am a massive Willis fan, steals the whole movie. This guy is true class. Irons plays the brother of Hans Gruber, Alan Rickmans character from the first movie, and baby Gruber is out for revenge, for the killing of his big brother, or so we are meant to believe.
I was disappointed at not seeing William Athertons Dick Thornburg character getting puched again, for me, Die Hard without ‘Thornburg’ being punched, is like McClane without a dirty vest.
The movie marries and superb twisting plot line with some incredible action scenes, and a few almost believable but equally stunning stunts. And coupled with the special effects, this makes this movie, the liveliest of the three. If they had only put the same effort into the second movie.
My only major disappointment with this (15) version, is the cutting of the elevator (lift) scene, where Willis, in the original, takes on three bad guys, resulting in true Die Hard carnage. Unfortunately this scene was so badly cut that, I think by a four year old with play scissors, that if you haven’t seen the original, you are left bemused, scratching your head, wondering what just happened.
Still it’s a great movie, and one for your Die Hard collection, until the proper version is released.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Die Hard films you will to 15 Mar 2000
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
John McClane back for the third installment of the great Die Hard films. This time Samuel L Jackson makes an appearance as an innocent by stander who gets involved with John McClane in his battle to find a bomb in a school which has been out their by one of his old enemies. Yet again things get blown up, crashed, shot at and beaten up. Another must for action fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seven guys with seven wives... 17 Jan 2014
McClane is now suspended from the NYPD, but when a bomb goes off in the Bonwit Teller Department Store the police go insane trying to figure out what's going on.

Soon, a man named Simon calls and asks for McClane. Simon tells the Inspector that McClane is going to play a game called "Simon Says".

He says that McClane is going to do the tasks he assigns him. If not, he'll blow off another bomb. With the help of a Harlem electrician, McClane must race all over New York trying to figure out the frustrating puzzles that the terrorist gives him.

But when a bomb goes off in a subway station right by the Federal Reserve (the biggest gold storage in the world) things start to get heated up.....

It was great to see another Die Hard movie get released, although this took the lone man versus a great number of people (the essence of Die Hard) and gave it a spin, with brilliant results.

If this was just another action movie with some other action star, it would have been average, but include McClane, and the wit his character has, you get something special.

Jackson makes a welcome addition to the franchise, and the pair have great, sweaty chemistry together. The race theme, could have been toned down a little, especially without the inclusion of why Zeus brother was killed, but it does make the pairing a little more intense.

With a neat little, twist referring the first movie, and Irons best panto villain, DHWAV is the franchises second best entry, thanks to tight directing by Mctiernan, exciting set pieces, and a brilliant pairing with Willis and Jackson.

A brilliant sequel, and a brilliant action movie.

1)When posing as a city engineer, Simon Gruber (Jeremy Irons) uses a heavy American accent to fool his adversaries. The same trick was used by his brother Hans (Alan Rickman) in Die Hard (1988).
2)Even though this is the third film in the Die Hard series, it is the first that takes place in the same city that John McClane is a police officer (New York). In the first movie he is in LA, and in the second he is in Washington, DC.
3)Laurence Fishburne was the original choice to play Zeus Carver, but turned down the part. When he reconsidered the decision, Samuel L. Jackson was already cast.

Bruce Willis looks a bit older in this one, but still puts on a good show.

There is plenty of action and swearing as you would expect.
