Hard Mated (Shifters Unbound) [Kindle Edition]

I have read all of Jennifer Ashley's Shifers Unbound and just had to read this novela.
Hard Mated is about Spike(a jaguar shifter) who we first hear about in the 1st book in the series, Pride Mates. Who is a tracker for his shiftertown leader Liam and a cage fighter part time.
After one of his fights he is aproached by a woman called Myka Thompson. She says that she is a friend of a woman that Spike had a one night stand with 5 years earlier and the woman (Jillian) is dying. Myka tells him that Jillian wants to see him and that it has to be right away. He agrees to go to the hospital with Myka but when he gets there Spike gets the suprise of his life and something he never expected to ever have.
Jillian has a son called Jordan and tells Spike that he is the father. The little boy shifts into his jaguar form and Spike knows instantly that she is telling the truth. The cub has his markings. There is a very touching scene when Spike picks his cub up and holds him for the first time.(Get the tissues out !). Spike agrees with Jillian that it is beter for Jordan to live with him but Myka's not so sure. So Myka starts to visit Spike to check he's taking good care of Jordan. While there she gets to like Spike more and more....
There are also some comical moments when Jordan gives his new Dad and Grandma the run around. We also get a few updates on other members of shiftertown from other books in the Shifter Unbound series.

Firstly I thought this book was excellent value for the price and length of the novel! I have read quite a few paranormal / shifter books over the past few weeks and I find that often times they are 100 pages or less and pretty pricey at that!

Hard Mated was a clear 4 star **** plus for me! Well written and easy to read I have already bought the next book about Ronan the Bear shifter and am looking forward to starting that straight away!

I absolutely fell for Spike's character so tough, dominant, and sure on the outside but inside much lonelier than even he dared to imagine. In walks Myka straight into his life and heart! Myka is friends with the woman who had a one night stand with Spike 5 years ago and from that Jordan their son was born. Up until now Spike has no idea he has a son. Myka shows up at one of his fights and asks him to go visit Jillian as she has something to tell him and she won’t be around much longer as she is dying from cancer. Spike goes to the hospital to find he has a cub! His reaction to the news was wonderful and extremely well written... Jillian passes away and leaves Jordan to Spike, but little does Spike know raising a cub is going to be much harder than he thought and he has to do it on his own! Although Jillian asks Myka not to interfere, Myka cannot settle without going out to check on Jordan and Spike... From there the story kicks into high gear! The romance and chemistry between Myka and Spike was a wonderful thing to read.... Will they be able to let go of their past to embrace a future together?

This will have a place on my kindle and I will read it again I am sure!

PS. I love the reference to how Spike got his nick name in the book! How very sweet and just what I thought of when I read the synopsis before reading the book.

This book is about Spike. Without giving anything away it's a fantastic book. The only thing I felt was slightly frustrating was that it tended to repeat information several times throughout the book.
That said it is still most definitely worth reading x
