Book Description

1 Aug 1996 DI Jack Frost (Book 4)

A young boy is found dead in a rubbish heap, suffocated and with one finger cut off. Another boy is missing. A psychopath is stabbing babies as they lie sleeping in their cots. A fifteen-year-old has been abducted, then found naked by the roadside. The corpse of a petty criminal is discovered, with the tops of three fingers chopped off. The small children of a carpet fitter are murdered; his wife's body is found on the railway line. A supermarket MD is sent a ransom demand for the missing boy, accompanied by one of the child's fingers...

Jack Frost, scruffy and insubordinate, foul-mouthed and fearless, staggers from crisis to crisis, his bumbling modus operandi disguising his extraordinary powers of detection.

Product Description

Review

"Crime pick of the year. Darker, funnier and more violent than the television adaptation, but just as high quality" (Daily Telegraph )

"Inspector Jack Frost (is) deplorable yet funny, a comic monster on the side of the angels" (Guardian )

"What impresses me most is the extraordinarily vivid interplay between the police characters. Frost himself is splendidly drawn" (The Times )

"Fast paced and wryly amusing, Frost's latest outing is a delight from start to finish, a unique and unlikely blend of humour and tragedy. More please" (Val McDermid Manchester Evening News )

Book Description

The magnificently tasteless Inspector Frost muddles his way through a gruelling assortment of crimes.

I have never been so into a book before. I just couldn't put it down.
If you are someone who enjoys a good murder mystery and you want to be transported into the book and feel like you are helping solve the crime then this the book for you.
I really enjoyed this book, and I will be getting the others in the series.

Format:Mass Market Paperback
Another good read in the Frost series. Rather more earthy than the television adaptation but fast with lots of intertwined plots.

Offensive but very funny, Jack Frost is a brilliant character. This book is unputdownable. Much better than the televised series. I cant wait for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars David Jason is Jack Frost 29 April 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio Cassette
Ex comedian David Jason has got the audio picture of this down at heel detective off to perfection. As usual this is a multi-plot story that unwinds slowly, twisting in its usuall manner. David Jason makes Mr Frost a nicer figure than in the book, and the plot is far deeper than the TV presentation. For those who like audio books, David Jasons, addaptation is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars Frost at his best 13 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Soon got through this one so it must have been good.

Frost is tied up in too many cases at once making many errors as he goes about his investigation. This is not helped by a temporary colleague from the past with a grudge.

Great storyline but can't help but visualize David Jason. A lot of laughs to be had along the way.

Have all six books.Totally Excellent. If you have not read any then do not think of the tv series.I am a Frost fan.Got the complete tv series love them all.The books, however, are so different.Frost is harder, scruffy and, yes, caring. His language is at times very strong and down to earth.Brilliant, totally recommend these books you will not be disappointed.

All frost books are very good, and highly addictive if you like murder, mayhem, and humour, yes the three do work very well together.

I have a few R.D.Wingfield's Frost books so a natural progression to start getting the "E" versions. A good read but not like the TV version so be warned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard Frost; harder than you thought
Complex gripping crime novel. Much darker and funnier than the TV series, and Frost is even more disreputable than his TV counterpart.
