Sharp looking case for my MacBook Pro 27 Dec. 2012
By K. Graham - Published on Amazon.com

After a very short drop of my MPB Retina (fell off an ottoman), resulting in a slight corner ding, I decided to get a case. I had a Speck hard case for my old (2007) MPB, and it was OK, but I wanted to try something different.

I found this Hard Candy case and was intrigued by it so I gave it a shot. So far, so good. It snaps on very easily, and unlike most cases of this sort, it actually has a clip that goes over 3 sides. This method adds about 1/4" to 3/8" to the outside perimeter.

The case is very shiny, but doesn't feel slippery. Interestingly, the bottom just features little 'bumps', so I'm not sure how it won't keep from sliding around when on a smooth surface. I had expected some rubber feet on there.

Is it worth the price? I'm not sure. Hopefully it will never get dropped again, but it will certainly keep the outside surfaces clean and protected from any incidental damage. I had also hoped the red would be a more cherry red. If it had been a shade or two different, it might be too girly looking for this guy.

ONE MONTH UPDATE: The bottom left corner is popping up -- push it down and it pops right back up. Also, the edges on the bottom should be rounded off and smoother -- they are uncomfortable against the wrist. I have contacted their support about these problems... hopefully I will hear back from them soon.

UPDATE: FYI. The manufacturer did send me a replacement after I sent them a photo of the case. They allowed me to pick any color I wanted, so I chose blue. I'm much happier with this color. No problems with the new one.

Good case for the macbook pro 26 Jan. 2013
By Adam McGee - Published on Amazon.com
While it took forever for me to get my hardshell case, once it came I was quite happy with it. I love that the case is clear so I can still see through, it's cool cause the apple light comes through as a lime green color so I now have a green apple :). The case snaps around my macbook so it doesn't damage it at all. The main thing that I like is that before I got the case I sometimes had a hard time opening the macbook, it wasnt easy to get my finger under the tip and i often had to pick it up on its edge to open it. This case has a tab at the top that makes it super easy to open.

4 stars for protection.1 star for fit and finish. It seems to be a first production run in need of some fine tuning. 28 Dec. 2012

After a long wait, I received my case today, and I'm not so impressed with the execution. It is very protective on the front corners, top and bottom; not as much on the rear corners. I think they found that the lid wouldn't open if they had the similar protection there.

So, if I or [daughter] drop it on edge or two of the corners, the protection would be good. If it's dropped on the rear edge or corners, the protection might be adequate.

It seems to be a first production run in need of some fine tuning:

The rear edge of the top cover kind of floats above the rear lip of the MacBook top case. There isn't a clip to hold that edge, like the clips that they do have on the bottom case back edge.

The bottom has a raised HardCandy logo off to one corner. On the other corner – on the inside of the case – there is a Designed In California Made in China stamp. Yes, its on the inside so you can't read it from the outside when the cover is in place. It's somewhat recessed, but I put some clear tape over those letters to prevent them from rubbing the MacBook case. The packaging also states "will not scratch the MacBbook" (note their Bb typo).

There are finger tabs (to remove the case) on each side, and one in the center where you open the lid. They look funky. If you knew you would never remove the case, I suppose you could get an exacto knife and trim them off. On the left lower side, the finger tab doesn't lay flat; yet the right side does.

I didn't expect a noticeable weight difference with a case, but it is noticeable.

I grant that it's a tough task to design a worthy case with protection for this nice MacBook Pro Retina. But after these many months, and $60., I expected better. With the delay, I figured they were working out some small problems. It's close. Maybe when they make some adjustments I'll try one again.

I'm returning.

4 stars for protection.
1 star for fit and finish.

Company unresponsive to return request 10 Jan. 2013
By Lisa Simone - Published on Amazon.com
Like the previous reviewers reported, the quality of this first-run product is significantly lower than the concept design drawings shown on the website months ago. After waiting for a month and a half for this to finally ship, it was a big disappointment. The area where your wrists rest is sharp and the plastic looks cheap. The concept is a nice idea, just poorly executed.

Look at the pictures for the lime case. There are 4 pictures. The first "shiny" case is the actual case. The other three pictures are engineering model drawings. These are NOT the real product! They look quite nice, and I ordered the case from the company based on these "pictures" before the product was manufactured. The company has since updated their website with the "actual" product pictures. For example, compare the close-up of the corner shown here, with new "actual" corner close-up picture posted on the company's website: [...]
I have been trying to return this product since Dec 26th, and the company has been unresponsive. Like others have done, I sent 4 separate emails as per their return policy, filled out two different forms on their website ("returns" and "customer support"), and tried calling the company directly. No response to any attempt.

Half Baked Design 23 Mar. 2014

This case has a wonderful look and an unnecessary level of protection. That gets you 2 stars.

Practically, this design is just not well thought out. The case adds over an inch of bulk, over a pound of weight, and no rubber feet.

Without rubber feet, the elegant design of Apple's mag lock power cord now becomes a death trap for you MacBook. As you walk by your normal surface table and mistakenly pull the cord connected to your MacBook, you will watch in horror as your computer slides right off the table onto floor below.

Not to worry your MacBook will survive. There's more than enough bulk in this case to save you a trip to Apple's Genius Lounge.
