Biography

In the late 1940s and early '50s, Chicago was the epicenter of the blues explosion; all the roads led there, from Mississippi Delta, the Midwest and the Southeast. Aristocrat 1305 bore a pair of traditional Mississippi Delta-styled pieces "I Can't Be Satisfied" and "I Feel ... Read more in Amazon's Muddy Waters Store

Format: Audio CD
This pack contains Muddy Water's three comeback albums that were released between 1977 and 1981, Hard Again, I'm Ready and King Bee. Just writing this review to let people know which editions this set specifically contains. All three albums included here are the remastered versions with additional bonus tracks, however unlike the individual releases there is no booklet with each album in this set but each album does come in a cool cardboard mini replica LP sleeve, which I find preferable to plastic CD cases.

So if you want all three remastered albums this set is great value for money.

The interesting thing about these 3 albums is that Muddy really seems to be enjoying himself very late in his career.
The recording quality is good and the musicianship is excellent. I have many of his recordings from the 1940s and 1950s which were legendary of course, but stereo sound wasn't around then and these 1970s recordings really are fascinating as they have so much more depth. Johnny Winter did a great production job here, not least because Muddy was in his sixties then but still seemed to have boundless energy (e.g. Mannish Boy). I had the pleasure of meeting Muddy at the American Blues Festival tour in 1963 at Birmingham Town Hall (I still have his autograph). If you like Muddy's music I think this 3 album set is indispensable.
