By A. Saer
Format:Paperback
This book is great. It was sent to me by a very good friend of mine who obviously thought it would benefit me... I began reading it late at night in bed and found I couldn't put it down! I don't normally read books like this, and I hadn't thought I was unhappy in my work, since I've recently started working for myself, doing the job I've always wanted to do. But the book really useful in helping me work out why it is I still find it difficult and how I can make it easier and be happier in my dream job. It's all very commonsense /practical but at the same time the author makes you think - well, I guess she's a psychologist so you might expect that. I found going through the exercises really illuminating and - bizarrely - rather fun. The one where you do a graph of all your previous employment and write down how happy you were, and then work out the reasons why, gives you a great framework for thought. I've bought a copy for my niece - she's only just started her first job but if the book gets her thinking about what she likes/doesn't like about her job and how she can change stuff herself (rather than quitting jobs like I tended to do, for the wrong reasons...) then she might take less time than I did in finding her perfect job/working environment.

I buy alot of business books and found this one to be one of the most practical if not the most practical one I have recently read. Simple, easy to apply practical concepts. I bought a couple of copies for my team in work to read so that they can understand that being happy at work is a choice you make which is one of the most important lessons from this book. Worth a read.

One for my desktop! 7 Jan 2008
Format:Paperback
I read this book over Christmas delighted to find a book that gets to the point with practical straight forward advice to make work life happier. I am already putting things into practice in my job and planning the year ahead full of optimism! I found other books in this area complicated and heavy going but with this book I've enjoyed a lot of 'light bulb' moments and the simplicity of the ten steps makes the task of turning things around in my career a lot less daunting.
