This live performance captured in front of an enthusiastic manc audience at the atmospheric G-Mex has to be seen to be believed.
Although the production values and sound are nothing more than glorified bootleg quality the apocalyptic nature of the Happy Mondays gig comes across in full psychedelic 3-D.

Marvel as Bez manages to stay upright, listen as Shaun Ryder utters his inspired words from behind a lyric sheet , groove to the shambolic backing that just manages to stay together and be afraid when Ryder takes a drum-stick to a cymbol.

This video captures a specific moment in British social history which is unlikely to be repeated any time soon, it illustrates the acid-house age at its peak just before it was watered down by record execs who realised that there was money to be made in the music coming out of the M25 rave scene.

As for the music itself, the obvious highlights are Ryders curse-binge on `Mad Cyril` the well rehearsed bass-line on `Do it better` and work in progess versions of later favourites `Gods Cop` and `Step On`. The Main reason to buy the video is the utterly stunning closer `W.F.L.`. This 12-minute anthem is full of hacienda style drum-loops and acid-house beeps, it`s less a song and more a `Happening` on stage. The stage fills up with roadies with whistles and guest musicians while the band gets icreasingly frantic. When the track finally breaks down the ecstatic cheering will leave you shuddering.
The after gig footage shows Ryder commenting that it all went `All right`, high praise indeed.
