What can I say? Happy Feet is a fantastic film. Despite being heavily marketed for children I find it is perfectly enjoyable for adults too.
That said, the DVD is disappointing. Due to Happy Feet's somewhat unique nature (for the time being anyway), an opportunity presented itself for some interesting extras. This is not the case. As I said before, this film is heavily marketed towards children, and as such the disk is mostly lacking in documentaries and such that a film buff or simply a huge fan would find interesting.
A few short, sparsely-detailed documentaries, a music video and a link to some PC downloads (doesn't work on Macs, I've tried) is all you'll find. It may be considered greedy to want more, but in a world where DVDs can feature hour-long documentaries and rich, detailed in-depth looks behind the scenes, production companies should not leave us with such mediocrity on big-name films.
The only interesting presentation is "Mumble Meets a Blue Whale" (does exactly what it says on the tin), which is dedicated to Steve Irwin as he voices an albatross in it. The scene was scrapped and Steve voiced an elephant seal in the final cut, but the film makers polished and finished this scene in his memory.
Also, the little fluffy Mumble I recieved smells strongly of some kind of industrial smell. But hey, he's cute and somewhat resemble the film's dancing protagonist. Nothing a little airing-out won't fix I hope.
But when all's said and done, the film is presented beautifully. But since I'm reviewing the DVD itself and not the film I feel the need to be harsh. It's a let down.
