It took a while to search through the online pages and visit a few retail bed stores before I stumbled upon what appeared to be very good value and quality. This product is manufactured by Bedmaster, who are a decent UK brand.for mattresses and beds. This item is an orthopaedic, open coiled, sprung mattress which means it's very firm to lie on, and was just what I was looking for. There's quite a range of prices online, but in the end I bought a divan base and mattress set from Happy Beds, saving myself about 25% of the cost which other sellers were charging for this product. The money I saved went on a new headboard.

For the few who claim the Ortho Royale isn't firm, you really need a divan base to support it. It's pretty well an essential requirement for this type of mattress, and beds with a slatted type base aren't suitable. With a proper solid support base all I can say is that the mattress is every bit as firm as I desired. I find that once your body gets used to an orthopaedic mattress you won't want to go back to sleeping on soft ones again. The Ortho is certainly firm but very comfortable and relaxing and I know I'll get a better night's sleep from this type of mattress than a softer one.

I'm really pleased with this mattress and can happily recommend this product.

it is a little risky buying a mattress online but I followed the good reviews and am very happy i did so, it is soooo comfortable! It is a pretty firm mattress which is what I wanted and quite thick, seems excellent quality, especially for the price. It is a little tight fitting on my bed frame (from Argos)but nothing to worry about. Best nights sleep in a long time!

We waisted our money on this one, problems with the springs started within the first few months, tried to get it resolved before the 12 months guarantee ran out, but just got ignored by the company. Please Beware!!!

This matress is very, firm, HEAVY!!, thick, well durable through all sorts of conditions if you know what i mean. I have been having great nights of sleep, i usually don't want to get out of bed in the mornings, it's soooo comfortable. My old matress was very low budget, so this one is like a dream come true. Well worth every penny.

My daughter states that she is now so comfortable that she does not want to get out off bed. However as a 13year old that may not be unusual!!!
Seriously the mattress arrived very promptly and well wrapped. It is thick and very comfortable I am very happy to reccomend both the company and the mattress

the delivery of the mattress was prompt and it looks good quality. I purchased the orthopaedic for my lower back pain, it has helped very little, however i wake up with pain in arms and legs as if i have slept on concrete.maybe its just to firm for me!! I am going to put my old mattress back on my bed as i can not stand the firmness of the mattress. sorry thats why i give it one star but stress again that it is good quality just too firm.

I am guessing that most of the reviews of this bed mattress have been left very soon after the mattress being delivered??

I left a great review just over a year ago, and hear I am to change it.

What an awful product. The first couple of weeks were great but after that it caused no end of problems for my back. I've always had a back back so perhaps this is to be expected from a £160 mattress but it does claim to be orthopaedic! Whoever labelled this mattress as orthopaedic is having a laugh (and is definitely not from a recognisable authority on the matter). My girlfriend - who has never suffered with back problems started to get a bad back after a couple of months.

After just under a year of suffering with this terrible mattress (we slept on the floor for the last two months because it has got so bad), we finally had saved enough to buy a decent one. Both of our backs are now much, much better and we are so happy with our new purchase.

I really hope that anyone reading this review thinks twice before considering this mattress. If you've got a bad back, then you need to go into a recognised showroom and try as many beds out as you need to until you've found the one for you. Pocket sprung seems to be the way forward these days as they are far stronger than the coil springs. This mattress is coil sprung and the springs were useless after a few months of use.

If the manufacturers or sellers of this mattress want to try and defend it then please go ahead and try. I'd love to know what you've got to say and why you have labelled this bed as Orthodpaedic? Has it got anything to do with the fact that there is unfortunately no British Standard for Orthopaedic Mattresses and you have taken full advantage of that fact?

Waste of money, terrible night's sleep and a constant bad back. Cheers.
