Product Description

If it's just you and me, together, for the rest of our lives - no-one else to mess things up... could you ever love me?

Peter loves Vanessa. He loves her a lot and is looking forward to starting a nice life with her, and only her. No one else to get in the way and mess up their beautiful relationship. He'll do anything for her. Absolutely anything to make her happy. Anything to see that beautiful smile of hers. Anything to live happily ever after with her.
The only problem is - Vanessa doesn't know Peter and, more importantly, understand why she is cuffed to the dining room table.

Told through the eyes of the two people living the story, follow Peter as he keeps Vanessa prisoner hoping that she will fall in love with him and follow Vanessa as she desperately looks for a way out of this hell.

Peter is lonely for many reasons. The normal method of having a girlfriend who is independent, doesn't work for him, so he feels forced into the course he has chosen.

Vanessa is a pretty girl with a happy family that is the latest in Peter's line of Girlfriends. He is so certain that she is the one, that he decides all she needs to love him is time alone with him.

I had a couple of bad dreams after reading "Happy Ever After". However, before you decide not to buy it, this isn't a bad thing. It's just a sign of how good the writing is. I don't normally get dreams from books, my skin is thick enough for the scenarios to bounce off it. Matt Shaw however got under my skin with his.

Matt's writing is wonderful; he draws you in and keeps you there. Told through the eyes of the characters, the chill comes from the brick wall Peter has built. He is determined to keep Vanessa to himself... forever. The descriptions of the environment are vivid and the switch between viewpoints handled neatly - no head hopping here!
The point of view adds an intimacy to their interactions and as Vanessa realises her situation, you get a panicky claustrophobic feeling from her.

There isn't a happy ending and that may put some readers off.
However, the realism of the story makes up for that and by the end I had tears in my eyes for both the characters.

I feel that there is more to the story that could be told. While it is a short book, the intensity of the reading experience is superb and I can see this being a movie very easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dark mind 30 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Read a horror they said.... "read a horror" being a rom com man, who normally only ventures outside of my Lisa Jewell Ben Elton bubble is to read the latest Jack Reacher novel, I was nagged and nagged to read a horror, so the search began, I then stumbled across this via a Facebook link a frend added, a download to my newly purchased Kindle and a weeks commute to the city later and I have completed this stunningly well written horror, told from two points of view, the 1st review is correct, and good book or video game to me is defind by how much you think / dream about it next stage when you put it down, the biggest complement I can pay to Matt Shaw is that when the 18:07 was delayed by a whole hour I did not even bat a eye lid. Congratulations, I am a horror convert

5.0 out of 5 stars Scared me to absolute death! 5 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I got this book without realising it was the second part of a trilogy. I only realised when I went to Amazon to source other work by this author. If you read this before the prequel, it won't detract from your enjoyment....i.e. you don't have to read the first story to be able to follow the tale. Again, this is the first book I have read by this author. It tells the story of Peter, who kidnaps Vanessa in his quest to find true love. The story is told from the perspective of both of the main characters. I was physically shaken after reading this book. It was a haunting account of a woman who is held captive by a deranged man. I could feel the tension as she tried to get out of her predicament, and even though there are hints by the author that she will never escape, the reader is left hoping and thinking she will. Does she escape? I'm not going to tell you, because that would ruin the tale for you. I haven't been this scared by a book for a long time...my heart was genuinely racing as I read it. I cannot wait to read the other two books in this series. The characters are well developed and entirely believable. The reader can envisage the house where the events take place perfectly, again due to the author's descriptive talent. I know for a fact I am going to be having nightmares tonight. And I also know that by tomorrow night I will no doubt be writing a review for the other two books. Absolutely brilliant although I am slightly worried by how well the author gets into the mind of the kidnapper! Is there something we should know? Lol.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very sick and twisted
I think this book was way too graphic and frankly quite sickening. I only finished it to see if she'd get away.. And the ending was disappointing.
