Book Description

19 Jan 2012

Number 1 bestselling author, Cathy Glass, shares her experience and expertise gained across 25 years as a foster carer in this brilliantly practical self-help guide for adults, the long-awaited sequel to her much-loved parenting guide that fans of Happy Kids have been clamouring for.

Cathy Glass reveals the secrets of happiness and contentment in adulthood by combining common-sense psychology with tried-and-tested strategies and case studies, always from her own unique and insightful perspective. With practical guidance on how to develop your own optimistic personal philosophy, tips on when to listen to intuition, and attitude and lifestyle suggestions, Happy Adults is the essential manual for getting the best out of life.

The recipient of thousands of letters and emails from readers touched by her inspirational memoirs whose own life stories resonate with those of the children in her care, Cathy has identified the key traits in happy readers that have buoyed them up during harrowing childhoods, through to functional and successful adulthood.

Compiling these valuable lessons on outlook and behaviour, for instance, how to dispel negativity and unproductive anger and embrace empowerment, and the importance of trust in oneself, Cathy has produced a single invaluable handbook for adults seeking fundamental life guidance or useful effective approaches for a lifetime of hope and fulfilment.

Reviews for Happy Kids

… a discipline technique that can tame out-of-control children in under a week. Cathy Glass, a mum of three, is promoting a non-violent three-step approach known as the "Three Rs" – request, repeat and reassure. She has revealed the technique for the first time in a new handbook, Happy Kids.
BBC Radio Gloucestershire

… help transform your little monsters into little angels. Parenting expert Cathy Glass reveals simple but effective techniques that are a must-have for parents and grandparents!
Full House Magazine

I loved her no-nonsense, down to earth approach, I could hear her voice from her fostering books. I would certainly recommend this book even if your children are teenagers and young adults. What she says makes so much sense. "
Mumsnet

Drawing on personal experience, Glass covers a host of problems, including sibling rivalry, special needs and changing behaviour.
Guardian

Happy Kids is a compendium of common sense advice on how to bring up children to be well-behaved and happy using Cathy Glass 3 Rs technique. The author has written in a clear style with wit and humour.
Play.com

I now apply the 3R's to my own children and children I care for and can honestly verify that Cathy's 3R technique does work whatever the child's age or behaviour problem. I am sure it will work for you too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy Adults 15 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
The book was concise, and to the point.

The sections go through common problems in life, and how to address them, minimize them, and deal with them.

It is surprising where we go wrong in life, such as never letting go of anger, harboring resentment, not setting goals, etc.

Without techno-babble and waffle, the book supplies enough information for an individual to make the needed changes in their lives to get results in the short, and long term.

I found the book a shortish read, and thus there are more main points to absorb, and less "fluff" to get in the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars This should be part of the school Curriculum ... 17 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
Having read a few of Cathy's memoirs I decided to down load a few and the next one I chose to read was "Happy Adults". I have an interest in Life Coaching so I have read many books on this subject. Cathy's book is unique in that it not only offer the most important information from these books but also loads of factual practical and health related information all in the one book. It doesnt tax the brain and is easy to take in. I totally believe that teaching life skills and motivational speaking should be far more comprehensive in all secondary schools than it currently is. I would recommend this book to all adults and especially recommend that parents encourage their young adult family members read this too. In fact start reading it to them at bedtime!!!!! LOL

1.0 out of 5 stars Happy Adult... but an Unhappy Reader 23 Sep 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Oh my God, what a complete waste time. Okay, so this book may have some merit for teaching children or those with learning difficulties what it takes to make a 'happy adult'. But, the advice is so basic and mind-numbingly obvious (i.e. "eat your vegetables, sleep well and exercise") that it's an insult to the average modern adult, even who may have the most dubious coping mechanisms already. Rather, this book would only serve those who really (really) haven't got a clue about how to live in the modern world - but even then, you'd have to be pretty clueless. Only appropriate to those without sufficient and effective life strategies... so could be useful reference material for those to offer in the care fields or the likes of social services etc?

Full of useful advice given in a friendly and practical way. Cathy shows how you can talk yourself into either misery or happiness and how to make sure it is the latter. All backed up with a great deal of research and common sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars open and honest writing 21 Jan 2012
By wendy
Format:Kindle Edition
Cathy has yet again written a easy to read yet hard hitting book. While some may think the 'take responsibilty' veiw is hard it is delivered with care, sesitivity and understanding. This book is unlike many of her others that tell a story but this one was more like a friendly chat with a friend who is trying to help and support you while you make changes. Full of positive advice yet unlike some 'self help books' this was warm and friendly advice not clinical and cold. A book for everyone, if you just want an emotional boost and pat on the back or you need help to realise your potential this book is the one to read.
