..".a cogent and thoughtful examination on why human beings have a moral obligation to be happy." -- "USA Today.".".[Prager] has an astonishing ability to state simple truths we hadn't heard articulated before, at least not so clearly, in a way that makes their truthfulness immediately and powerfully obvious." -- "The Wall Street Journal""Prager's latest book challenges readers to realize that they--not any outside force--are the greatest obstacle to happiness."-- "Los Angeles Times "There is perhaps no more important task for a person that the research for happiness, and no more reliable guide in that quest than Dennis Prager." -- Rabbi Harold Kushner, author of "When Bad Things Happen to Good People"

Product Description

Happiness, says Prager, is a serious problem. This is because the single greatest obstacle to happiness is insatiable human nature itself. But though lasting happiness is profoundly difficult to achieve, it is not impossible. Now, with his insightful and explosive new work "Happiness Is a Serious Problem, " an extension of his world-famous lectures, Prager gives readers the powerful new tools they need to make happiness a reality in their own lives.

"Happiness Is a Serious Problem" contains many life-changing insights, including the idea that the only people we know who are happy are people we don't know well; the fact that being happy is usually seen as a selfish goal but that we have a moral obligation to the people in our lives to pursue it; and that unhappiness is really the difference between our perceptions and our reality. By changing our reality or reducing our expectations, happiness becomes easily realizable. Humorous, accessible and penetrating, "Happiness Is a Serious Problem" shows that when happiness is treated with the same level of seriousness that people bring to life's other tasks, it becomes immediately more tangible and thus achievable.

Extremely helpful book. 24 April 1999

Format:Paperback
A fresh perspective and bright outlook on happiness. It is ironic that in this advanced stage of man's evolution, real happiness is still an unknown to many. Man can now move moutains at the push of a button and yet basic happiness and personal fulfillment eludes us. Perhaps it is our tendency to see ourselves as a body with a soul when it should be the other way around. Then things will start to have a different meaning. Happy reading to all!!!

I have been on a mission to share this gem with all of my family and friends (so far, I've purchased this book 5 times as gifts and recommended it to at least 15 friends). Dennis Prager has produced a truly valuable book that, when properly digested, can lead to tremendous personal growth. I'm a fan!

This has been my all-time favorite book since this past spring when I found it. I read it totally cover to cover. (I don't always, even with books I like.) This book defined the problem and suggested understandings that were were clear, quite readable, and, in my opinion, quite on-target. I am giving it as a gift to a number of people.
