Product Description

Product Description

We all want to be happy. But how? Do we even know what we want, what it means? Thoughtful and spiritual, this short book covers what the philosophers and religious leaders have said about the question of happiness down the ages. But mostly, it focuses on what it means to us today, and how we can find true happiness in our own lives. Suffering, money, relationships, marriage, sex, art, forgiveness, healing, and society - they all affect our happiness, and how we view them can help us decide whether we are really going to enjoy happiness or not. Brian Mountford here provides a practical, personal, accessible and wise guide to the best advice on happiness available to us today.

From the Author

Happiness in 10 Minutes is a practical book about well being
rather than a specifically religious book. I look at philosphy, positive
psychology, emotional health, methods of truth and reconciliation, as well
as Christianity in this attempt to find peace of mind and fulfilment. I do
not try to convert the reader, but present ideas and realities for people
to make up their own mind about.

I was recently in a bookshop where a lady was buying a copy. I was
introduced as the author and she said, 'If it doesn't work I'm going to sue
you!' I haven't heard from her - yet.

A delightful exploration of what makes us happy in 15 short, easily digestible chunks. Tracing a skilful path through philosophy, Christianity, art, literature and human relationships, Brian Mountford outlines with the lightest of touches the age-old battle between the attractions of material wealth and inner well-being. No moralising - and any theological work whose last chapter is headed 'Chocolate' has got to be read.

I really enjoyed this book, as I did Brian Mountford's Perfect Freedom. He writes with an elegant simplicity for intelligent readers of any (or no particular) faith. Certainly a lot more profound than the "ten minute" bluffer's guide you might expect from the title. With references from Socrates to St. Augustine to Bridget Jones, Mountford's reflections on the nature of happiness are thoughtful and practical.

A very useful and practical book. Obviously it is Christian in reference which may put some people off but it is very clearly and simply written and very digestible.
