Happens is out at last!,

This review is from: Happens (Audio CD)
As a Byrds fan, I enjoyed two of the nine songs found on a compilation album titled Byrd Parts. With his friends the Byrds, Hemmings came up with this album. Happens definitely has some interesting songs. New to me are the improvisational songs which include "Good King James", "Talkin' L.A." & "War's Mystery". At first I didn't know what to make of them, however having listened to them a couple of times, I quite enjoyed "Good King James" & "War's Mystery" ("Talkin' L.A." reminds me of his impression of a yank!) but definitely different. "Good King James" is best kept as a Raga song & is something which inspired the Byrds, in which they nearly did a whole album of. While this album isn't totally raga, there's some good Tradational Folk songs with "Bell Birds" & "Anathea" as well as songs dealing with War themes ("War's Mystery" & "The Soldier Wind"). Overall, not bad if your a fan of the Byrds, it gives me something (other than the Byrds) to listen to as well as some variety in music. It could even be an album which gets better the more you listen to it.

this is as bad as you can possibly imagine! even die hard byrds fans should hesitate. there is precious little here to satisfy you. yeah mcguinn's ric 12 is there as is hillman's bass but hemmings vocals are truly painful at times and his improv lyrics will make you wince. some things should remain lost.
