4.0 out of 5 stars John Power - Happening For Love 18 July 2003
Format:Audio CD
John Power returns two years after the release of BeetRoot and then the subsequent break up of scouse quartet Cast. Beetroot was a disappointing end to such a great band but the power of John is on show once again in this superb solo effort.
The album kicks off with a very cast-esque 'Electrify' wonderful acoustic licks are the core of this album.'Small Farm' is another similar tune - Power going back in time to find the sound which brought him success in multi platinum selling outfit Cast. The stand-out track for me is 'Mariner' - no surprise a Liverpudlian singer writing about the sea - another winning formula in this amazing track. The title track 'Happening for Love' is an edgier effort a bit more rock which sounds sensational.
All round a superb album a must for scouse scene fans or fans of Cast. Do buy it!
4 Stars - ****

5.0 out of 5 stars Just gets better each time its heard! 9 July 2003

Well what can be said of John Power, on the evidence of this album, the words that spring to mind are unique, amazing, brilliant, perfect, etc. We`ve all heard how good cast were and I was eagerly awaiting the debut solo album from JP. Every track has its own brand of the John Power touch simply but effectively passing through it. The album begins with Electrify, a beaty acoustic sound and cleverly written lyrics makes this a fantastic opening track. Personally I would say that to date my favourites are the beautiful Small Farm, Powerful Mariner, Rock stomping Happening For Love and the closing track Island. All in all this fella is quite smply the most underrated singer/ songwriter I can think of. How this fella or cast for that matter have been placed under the shadow of Coldplay, Travis, Etc is beyond belife. Go and buy this album now along with his other material and with every listen I guarantee your life will feel better by the day by its mere existance!

5.0 out of 5 stars He's done it again. 3 July 2003
Format:Audio CD
He's been gone for exactly 23 months. Now, the great man, John Power is back.
To date this is the sixth studio album John Power has recorded and after his last, 'Beetroot' (Cast), you had to wonder which way his music would turn.
'Happening for Love' sees Power at his best, the format is mellow and acoustic, as we see John's scouse chirp dissolve into a soft rhythm. It is obvious that his lyric writing has changed little, he was always the spiritual Indie frontman, and this album sees his beliefs blossom once more.
From the album the outstanding tracks are 'Happening for Love', a Dylan-esque anti-war song, and 'Island', a song where the vista and message shine through with a picturesque harmony - beauty akin to no other.
The album evokes images vividly, and although it is a disappointment to lose the chirp and energy of Power's voice one can see how it wouldn't fit with an album of such mellow splendor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!!! Why was this not better publicised? 4 Aug 2003

This album is the first solo work of Cast's main man, John Power. This is the best album to come out of Merseyside since Sgt. Pepper it has been said. This Beatles fan would beg to differ but I admit it's a very close call. Power truly is one of the 21st century's best songwriters. The album is a classic to be. I wonder why is was not advertised or hyped up but I guess the answer is that it doesn't need it.
